Antenna issue

Stereo radio worked great in my old car and put stereo into new car (Dodge Avenger) and can't pull a radio signal worth listening to. Any idea on what to check on? I thought I may have had a faulty antenna adapter so I got another one with same results. Also would it be possible if nothing else works to open up the radio and hard wire the antenna to the back of the antenna recepticle?
