another way to not clip?

Set your gain on the amp with the sub turned up to 15. That's where you're going to get the max voltage (2 volts on the 9845 I believe) from the sub output.
I've got a 9886 and I set mine with the sub at 10, that way I have play in both directions.

I set my gain on my amp with my 9855 at 15. I normally don't listen to music with the sub turned up that loudly. Also, with my Pioneer, I set the amp with the sub at +6, the maximum setting. Again, I don't normally listen to music with the sub turned all the way up. I generally like a nicely balanced system. The reason I did that with both my HUs is to be able to achieve maximum voltage at the output should I desire more bass, which I occasionally do, just not too often...if that makes sense.

I guess it does make sense to set it at a slightly lower setting though... If you have something that plays quieter or was mixed at a lower volume, you'll be able to turn it up a little more to get a little more out of it.

i think the way i told him was to have the bass up some what while setting ur gains and when u hit the voltage point on the DMM back the gains up a tad then turn the bass down on the head unit.....
