Another new guy question...

My buddy and I just hooked up an Alpine HU, a Kenwood 150 watt bridged amp, and a Kicker CVR10 CompVR. Everything went smooth and it sounds great until you turn up the volume to a certain point. When the volume is turned up to about 15 or 16 the subwoofer goes in and out, no distortion or bogging crappy bass sound. The best way to describe it is that the bass just goes off and on.

Bear with me I'm new at this.

Any ideas what might be causing this? It gets up there pretty loud before it starts happening.

yeah, if you turn the gain down ALL THE WAY, can you bring the volume over 15 while having the sub still play. (yeah yeah, it wont be loud)

check out how to properly set the gains on the amp man.

If you turned the gain ALL THE WAY down, the sub will not play at all....

Get yourself a DMM and set it correctly, do not second guess a gain.

Hey bud how much are the DMM's i meen ive never looked into them but i was thinking about getting one. Also your rcas could be bad as well, as this happened to me and it was a bad RCA

Depends on what kind of quality you're going for, can be anything from $10 to $200 dollars. I, personally, have a nice $180 fluke multimeter and it is a great multimeter, but then again I also need it for HVAC stuff, so i guess it really depends on how often you are looking to use it and how accurate you want it to be.

Edit: if you don't know what you are doing you can fry those lil 10 dollar ones with ease.
