Been out the game for 20 yrs and haven't the time to research everything (I now have a headache). Need help selecting components for a modest system. This is for a 1992 Honda Accord and it’s my commuter car. Looking at $1000 or less. Please feel free to comment or recommend. What I’m looking at so far:

-Amp:Cadence TXA 6400(1-2 channel @ 150x2 4ohm, 3-4 channel @ 600x1 4 ohm)

-Front Comps:phoenix Gold RSD-65CS. Probably need spacers. Shallow doors

-Subs:Undecided (Maybe 10" Kicker CVR, CVT or L5 in their Logo box??) I know, I know. Build my own.

-HU:Undecided. Double Din Dash Opening. Definitely want I-pod ready and EQ

-RAAMmat

Thanks for the woofer links. Good looking subs

Anyone have any experience with the Kicker loaded boxes. How do they sound. I don't know if I'll have the time or the patients to build a box myself.

I would do two seperate amps myself, or a good 5channel amp, which you really don't need.

I have those comps and for the price, they are hard to beat. So good choice on those.

I recommend a nice 75rms plus amp to the highs and for subs you should do fine with a CVR off 500rms or so. I might be selling my Kicker CVX, which is the higher model of those subs for a good price. Then again you would probably want at least 700rms amp for that. Let me know.

Box, you are right, build it yourself as it will be better than anything pre-fab, as long as it is built right. If you don't want to do it yourself, there are plenty of people on here that have good prices. I recommend BjFisher for that.

Raammat is a good choice in sound deadener.

Deck, anything Pioneer or Alpine is good. Pioneer has a lot of problems with engine noise, hell I have it with my 880PRS and have everything grounded. I just think my Pico fuse went in it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Welcome back, lol!

I'll just try the 4 channel first. If I don't like the sound or set-up. I'll add a mono amp for the subs.

Subs...subs are where I'm having trouble. Not sure whether to go sealed or ported. I'm pretty sure 10's are all I need. Not a bad deal on this http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-KICKER-PAIR-S10L5-10-SOLO-2-OHM-LOADED-ENCLOSURE_W0QQitemZ350062205259QQihZ022QQcategoryZ32823QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I'm thinking that their boxes aren't up too everyones standards here. But let my know. Thanks

I still would do 2 seperate amps, but that is just me.

Those subs will work, but ditch the prefab! I mean I don't know how much you are into sound, but I would get one made custom, which will make those shine a lot more.

Like I said, if you are not up to par with making your own, hit up BjFisher. He is a well respected member here with decent prices on boxes. He has a website as well, but not coming to mind.

WIRING: I suggest getting 4 guage wiring,or 1/0 wiring and distribution blocks.

MONO SUB: I have the Infinity Reference 611a mono amp, and its birthsheet says it does 738W RMSx1 at 2 Ohms. I have had it for a couple of years and LOVE it! You can get one NIB for $194 shipped here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/INFINITY-611A-MONO-CAR-REFERENCE-AMP-675-WATT-BRAND-NEW_W0QQitemZ130224090130QQihZ003QQcategoryZ64570QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Highly recommend getting this.

SUBS: As far as subs go, I like having 2 subs better than having 1 sub, due to increased SPL and ability to upgrade the amp later (My Inifinity 611a does 738W RMS at 2 Ohms to push 2 subs rated at 800W RMS each at 2 Ohms- lots of room to upgrade the amp!).

FRONT SPEAKERS: To save money, you may have to get coaxial speakers. I have the Infinity 6012si speakers which are shallow-mount 6.5" speakers. You can find them on ebay for $65, shipped. They are rated for 50W RMS nad have a mounting depth of 1-15/16", or 50 mm. A link:

AMP FOR FRONT/REAR SPEAKERS: Get a 4 channel amp, rated for at least 50W RMS at 4 Ohms. There are tons of them out there at decent prices. Look around. Try Hifonics as a starting point.

HEAD UNIT: I suggest getting one with a front auxillary input so you can hook up any mp3 player to it. This isn't necessary, but greatly expands the functionality of your HU. Get the highest voltage output you can afford. Best Buy often has specials on their head units where if you buy one from them, they will install it for you for free on purchases over $100. HU's voltage output starts at 2 Volts.

Good luck!

EDIT: I am not a fanboi of Infinity; their products just happened to meet my requirements when shopping for audio components.

ENCLOSURE: Please, please, please make your own. It is a great way to spend a weekend afternoon and you will be SOOOO proud of yourself. All you need is some 3/4" MDF, wood glue, drill, 1.5"-2" wood screws and a jigsaw. Here is a GREAT site where you can design your own custom enclosure:

http://www.reaudio.com/speaker_box/LPort_Box_Calc.html

Once you have designed it, it will tell you the size of the cuts needed. You can go to Home Depot or Lowe's and have them make the cuts for you right there- usually for free. Then, all you need to do is drill holes for the screws, glue and assemble the box. Easy!

Welcome back, lol!
Actually with RSD's a 5ch would be perfect especiaslly is the front ch's are between 35-75 rms they can be bridged to drive the RSD and the 5th ch open to the subs...something like a Memphis Big Belle comes to mind //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Oh, no doubt, but didn't seem like something he would rock. He is pretty dead set on the 4 channel for whatever reason. I imagine cost, yet he has 1000 smacks to work with.

I would love to have a 5channel amp and run everything of it.

I don't have the flow right now though. Going on my honeymoon next weekend and well I have money already spent that is sitting in my room, lol!

Good choice on the Alpine 9886 and the PG Rsds + Raamat. You will not be dissapointed.

I'm not really sure if you were wanting to get Front/Rear fill or just front. I suggest putting the rsd component set up front and get a nice 2 channel amp, and forget the rear fill. Something around 100-125 watts per side. I ran my Rsds at about 130-150 with a Kicker Kx450.2 and I couldn't be happier.

As for the amplifier goes I recommend getting a 2-Channel for your component set, then a Mono for your subwoofer. There are so many different choices just make sure you search the brand/model number on the forum and/or google and read a couple reviews on the amp before you buy.

For the subwoofer, not sure if you want more SPL or SQ, but im guessing SQ. Go to http://www.ficaraudio.com and check out their SSD or Q. Maybe a Mach 5 Audio MAW-15, or Image Dynamics as posted by someone above. Again just do a little research before buying.

As for the enclosure, sounds like you don't really want to make one but DO NOT buy a prefab one from a store! It cuts down your output and sound quality significantly. I recommend talking to vitveet or bjfisher on the forum, both great guys with a lot of talent!

Hope this helps, GL.
