Replacing factory system in Ford Ranger, Couple Q's

I decided that I wanted better sound in my 95 ford ranger, so I started looking on ebay. I'm not an audiophile by any means, just looking for a little upgrade. So far I have purchased:

1. Pioneer DEH-P3000IB Headunit for $55

2. JL Audio Tr570-cxi 6x8 speakers for $17

Did I get good deals on these? I'm not planning on adding an amp or sub at the moment, but will these speakers sound good without an amp? In a supercab pickup truck, should I replace the front speakers or rear speakers first? The rears are much easier to replace, the fronts require removal of the whole door panel.

Thanks

I mean you paid 73 dollars for the both of them, so I don't think it is a bad deal.

Since you are not an audiophile, then it should suffice, however I would replace the front speakers first. I am not sure what size they are, but I believe Crutchfield has a scale that tells you.

If you don't care about a sub and what not, then so be it. I would at least do a componet set, which consist of a Mid bass woofer and usually a 3/4" or 1" tweeter and a passive crossover that takes care of the crossover pts and what not.

I have the Phoenix Gold Rsd's 6 1/2" set I picked up for 75 dollars shipped off these forums, but they sale new from Audiosavings for 87 I believe. Have good mid bass, although will sound better if you sound deaden your doors.

Should be plenty for you. Thing is I wouldn't run them off the deck or really any speaker off the deck, unless you had other highs already amped. So pick up a cheap amp to power them if you can. I recommend at least 75rms amp x4 or 100rms x2 and those PG's I mentioned will shine.

I am sure you can find them on ebay for decent prices as well. Just look around.

Hmmm ok. I am trying to keep it as simple as possible right now. Both the front and rear speaker sizes are 6x8. If I don't amp the JL speakers will they sound bad even if I don't turn them all the way up? They will still be better than stock, right?

I am sure you would be fine with the deck, being you don't seem like an audiophile. Not gonna hurt anything, so hook it up and see if you like it. That is all you can really do anyway. I was just trying to give you ideas was all.

Thing is if you kept the stockers, it may have been better, being that the aftermarket speakers require more RMS to get them to their potential. The factorys are low rms, usually like 20rms or so, so don't take much to get them going if you get what I am saying.

What is the the rms of your deck?

Ok thanks for the help. I believe the rms of the deck is only 14 watts, so that probably doesn't help. I may just install the deck and wait to put in the speakers. Or try them in the back first where I can see if they sound better than stock.

I am confident in my ability to install a headunit and some door speakers, but I am hesitant about trying to install an amp and running the wires. How much would most places charge to install a 4ch amp to power my speakers?

personally i find installing the headunit harder than installing an amp, an amp is nothing more than power, ground, remote, and running the wires... with the headunit you have to make sure its securely fastened, flush with the rest of the dash, looks good, all that other crap, where as an amplifier you can hide in your trunk in the wheel well, or anywhere so no one see's it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

That's true but with the HU you don't have to worry about running wires through the firewall and concealing them. Maybe i just need to find a couple friends to work on it with.
