just began this box this afternoon. Got all the way to this point. Tomorow afternoon will continue. I have to wait for the carbon fiber to come in to finish it. going in a 2000 mustang.

this is it after resin was saturated into the fleece. Once the resin was cured to a mild stiffness, I used a rasor to cut out the rings. Idid a quick fit check of the subs for flush arround teh flange and the ring. It sits perfectly.

here are a couple other views.







this next picure shows the small gap I have betwen chambers where the shape of the fleece is raised up. I will fill this in by cutting an aproximate 12" square piece of fleece, mix about 6oz of resin and completely saturate it then neatly fold the fleece up and stuff it into the gap. After that I will fill it in with fiberglass reinforced body filler. I still have to reinforce teh box from the inside. I will be using aproximately four layers of fiberglass cloth. Not sure the oz per sq yd of the cloth I am using, but it is some thick *** heavy duty shiat. I will post a pic later with a quarter to show reference. I just acquired a 5ft wide roll that is aproximately 60yds long. I also have some thnner stuff on a roll as well.

fiberglassing the inside of teh enclosure. Kind of messy, but these things never look pretty the entire way through. Its always the finished product that says it all. none the less here is the build up of the reinforcements from the inside...













I obviously have to seal off the insides between the rings a bit better. I will do that as I said with body filer. Probably a thick *** body filler/polyester resin mix 5:1 by volume. The excess resin I used to put into the corners. Not necesary especially since I used dado joints though out the build. The dado gives another 3/8 in glue joint reinforcing it that uch more. The pieces are glued together using tite bond II, then using some liquid nails in the corners as a caulking substitute, then the resin on top of that. I believe it will be sufficient. As well as the thickness of the walls. I used about four to five layers of the fiberglass cloth. The finish is going to be a carbon fiber. So the total thickness of the wall will be about 3/8 to 1/2in thick with the outer resin finish over the carbon fiber, and the body filler/polyester resin mix o the interior surface. Thing sould be tight as all hell. The two deviders beteen the chambers gives aditional suport and bracing. I believe the box will sound quite clean.

The three RF P2 subs will be ran by an 800W RMS audiobahn Rack mount amp along with a matching rack mount 3farad Capacitor. Using 4guage power cable, and 8guage speaker cable run to the subs. They will not be starving for power that is for sure.

You reinforce the same way I do. Makes the finishing stage far easier, although I've killed more than my fair share of brain cells with my head in a 14" hole to check on coverage. But I ain't need none dem no morez.

LOL, yeah I should wear a respirator. I have about 20 brand new respirators and all the cartridges. I never wear them though> I bet I would rethink it if I knew the actual hazards. I don't remember the last time I even touched an MSDS. The way I reinforce it is the quickest easiest way. Some people leave the Fleece shell as is no reinforcing material, which is booty as hell. I accept no chance in flexing panels. The total time I spent on this box so far is aprox 6 hours. i bet if you worked on it all day you could get it done (if you had all the stuff)...

its all prep work that gets you dont quick. having all the brushes ready, all the mixing cups and stuff out and organized, an all the tools at the ready, and a nice shop to do it in, ive noticed since i worked at circuit city, my production level is MUCH quicker when the soldering iron is on, and i ahve my tool bag with all my stuff.

so far its a really nice looking box.. im not really a fan of its "square" back... i prolly would have cut the shape of the sides concave, and the top\bottom convex to give a nice rounded apparance... maybe aimed the subs at an "upward angle"

im assuming the box lays on its side and the subs fire straight out.

yes, correct the box will lay flat like that. And Ilike your idea about the concave/convex frame shaping prior to mounting the rings. once fleece is stretched over I am sure it would look nice. However, I am doing this exactly how he wants it. The face of the sub enclosure is actually going to be pointing through an opening that fits EXACTLY to the outer diameter of the box. So you will only see the face anyway. They will be facing into the cab of the 2000 mustang. Finished with carbon fiber. The back of the box (what you would see when you open the trunk is going to be concealed by a retaining wall where the amps will be mounted. I have everything readily available mostly. My problem is I do this on the side from my 60 hr per week job, so sometimes I wake uplate after taking a much needed power sleep on a saterday morning. I also tend to set things down subconciously and don't recall where I put them exactly. Need to ATAF my tools more often (ALL TOOLS ACCOUNTED FOR) That shit pisses me off. BTW, what do you use to draw that little sketch out with? Seems like it would be a handy tool.

I have a tool bag, I just never seem to use it as much as I use my routers, saws and drills. SO I just keep all of my install tools in a tool box tray and keep it handy. so how much does a MECP installer make at or circuit city? And do they allow you to custom fabricate fiberglass enclosures there? Assuming you had all of your own tools already.
