and it begins... my tweeter pillar pod project

if you ever get a chance to try tweeters in the pillars at various angles, try it and listen carefully. putting them on-axis really brings out the top end and adds detail. i am hearing things i have never heard before in certain music.

IMO "on-axis" is the only way to go.
If you had said with these tweeters I wouldn't have chimed in, but...

That's a pretty blanket statement. You're smarter than that. You know that on-axis doesn't work for all tweeters. Some are much too 'shouty' on-axis, some aren't. Some that are supposed to have a drop in the top end when off-axis don't. Car to car... driver to driver (speaker to speaker).

just sayin'. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

yes, you are right.

but at the same time with any tweeter off-axis there will be more top end coming from the tweeter furthest away because usually the further tweeter will be quite a bit more on-axis. so IMO somehow this needs to be fixed and i'd rather do it with placement rather than EQing in the top end.

but yes you are right, not all tweeters sound best on-axis right out of the box.

I understood why you said that. Just wanted to poke at you for saying something you know isn't right on. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Anyway, looking forward to seeing your progress.

^ yea, it really is dependent upon a few things.

My tweeters are aimed completely off axis, firing down at the dash.

Here's the FR of my tweeters:

Here's my actual response. The only EQ on this is 3db on the right side tweeter. That's it.

I'm sure he's talking about the pillars.

I'd have to agree. I hate saying anything bad about stuff because I know my car is always jacked... but I"m just not a fan of how the tweeters stand out. Just too much protrusion for me. But, it is your car, and if you like it, that's all that matters really.

i know i could have made the right side not stick out so far but there is really no easy way to get the left side on-axis in the pillars in this car. it's as least protrusive as can be really. it only sticks out 2 inches on the left side. and maybe 2.5-3 inches on the right, and i kinda did the right side the way i did for a reason.

I made this suggestion in your other post but you didn't reply; don't know if you didn't see it or if you just didn't care to respond b/c it won't work...

if the tweeters aren't deep, why not just mount them to the pillar? I know you have the ability to do this because of your past installs. In my wife's car I'm putting the tweeters behind the pillars by drilling LOTS of tiny holes in the pillar and wrapping in cloth. Maybe that could work for you?

or you could have just angle cut a piece of PVC connector as it would have been less obtrusive and probably easier to glass in.

I've installed a few sets of the RSD's and the tweet seemed fine off-axis. My Vifa xt25's were horrible until I got them on-axis as they're so laid back and the ring radiator seems to block dispersion.

I'd make the sacrafice on looks for better sound, so I don't blame you for doing what it takes to get the sound you want.
