so i did an install for a guy i know and when he went to wash his car yesterday, apparently his trunk seals are FAWKT and now maybe his amps are too because of it... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

not my fault, but i just want to know what the probability is that the amps are done. the amps are the JBL GTO 1201.1 (two of them) and he said there was water on them, and there was definately condensation (fog) on the inside of the top cover. one of the ANLs in line blew, but the other one did not. he said it was making the subs just "hum" basically. and with the power off (but still hooked up) the one amp's protection light was still on (just barely, but it was). i told him the only thing i could think of which was to pull the fuses and give them a few days to try and dry out.

what do you folks think? sorry for the ramble...

NEVER, I repeat NEVER turn them on if you think they're wet, this just forces them to die if they are. Give them time to dry, open the front panel after removing them and put a hair dryer on low about 1 foot away, so that it doesn't cook anything, but gets hot air flowing around. Though, if I remember for this amp the top cover is a mesh, so yeah. But it is too late now, sounds like you have two toasted amps, and it could be anything. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif Don't tell me there was soap too......

Dry them off ASAP via the method mentioned above, make sure they're completely dry...

Sounds screwed, but I dunno. Give them time to dry and try agian, he may get lucky
my thoughts...

i told him to NOT turn them on, but i think he did before i got there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif one amp's ANL was toast, but the other wasn't. i told him we should pull them out, open them up and sit them in his shed so the hot-ness in there (this is the south //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif) would dry them out in about a day or so. BUT, this is not how it went down. they are still in the trunk //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif. and the tops are a plastic not mesh, and afaik there was no soap on them.

Take them out of the trunk so they can dry instead of sitting in a hot wet trunk. You might be surprised but if the trunk is wet they won't dry out.

If you told him what to do to give his amps a chanceAnd he didn't, **** it
this is, he still owes me a little on the install //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

and i was going there to re-do his grounds. guess i can save that wire for a rainy day (pun intended)

Didint read other replies but,

take them out and put them in front of a de-humidifier for a day or two, let it completely dry out and then give it a try..

Worked with all the electronics I got wet..GL

Dittos to what everyone is saying.

Even though the fuse blew on one, that may be a good sign. It blew before any damage could happen to the amp...maybe.

Take them to a cool, dry place, let them thoroughly dry out and then see if they still work. Yeah, it will take a day or two maybe (quicker if you have a de-humidifier) but patience may save him some $$$$.

yeah, i told him that the fuse being blown may have saved his amp. but the other one i think is done for sure. i'll call him and tell him AGAIN to take them shits out, and get them opened up. i tried yesterday, but he was in a rush to go somewhere so i was like fawk it...

Hell it could have been mine, the first day I got the CV, it was a puddle of water in the trunk. Car came with bad trunk seals, I had SKCO replace them at Ford since it was still under warrenty.

The leak screwed the box I had from my previous car (2 12" Kicker CVRs)
