Amplifying stock car subwoofers/woofers - bad idea?

I have an 05 mini with the "premium" harman/kardon system. "Premium" because it's garbage. I'm upgrading the system with new amps and new component speakers in the front. The stock rear speakers did bass really well for small 6 inch woofers and went down to 40 hertz. Even though they ran fullrange, I think they were designed primarily for bass. I was considering upgrading them to 6.5 inch subs but because of the weird size I think it's going to be a pain, so I'm thinking about keeping the rear woofers and putting a low pass filter on them at 80 hertz so I would be using them like subs. My only concern is the amp I wanted to use to drive them can output 125 watts rms per channel. Is this a bad idea? I'm not sure how much power the stock amplifier was giving them, but it seemed like a good amount because the wires were thick for factory wires. The speakers themselves are beefy too and seem like they can handle power: https://images.app.goo.gl/3rZVBXaB7jnTjrGZ6 Is it still too much of a risk? I know that more power is generally better, but I really don't want to melt the voicecoil or something, any thoughts?

I feel like it would be easier and sound alot better adding a powered sub..especially with having the room available

Unfortunately there's absolutely no room. I have the convertible model and there's no trunk space, or space underneath the seats. :( My amps barely fit. I don't need a lot of bass at all really, just enough for it to sound "full" Plus, I was happy with the amount of bass the stock system had. That was the one thing I was satisfied with. And as for the rear passengers having no real speakers, oh well :D I'm not very considerate.

Ahh my fault.. When you said Mini.. Im thinking Mini Van.. Not Cooper. You can still fit like a 6" amplified tube in there

No worries, I should have been more clear, sorry xD. A 6 inch amplified tube may or may not fit, the convertible top takes up a lot of trunk room, there's barely enough room for three backpacks in the trunk. I think what I'm going to do is just try out using the stock rears as subs for now, and if I'm not satisfied then I'll consider other options.

Id give it a try myself to see how it turns out. Utilizing what you have first. May be all you are needing/ wanting to satisfy your listening.Just take your time.Rushing Ive made mistakes at times.
