Amp. wiring

What is the best way to wire a Rockford Punch a4 to one JL w3. I can't seem to figure out how to wire it up 2 channel without the overheating safety mechanism kicking in. Would you recommend using a 2 channel amp.

what kind of sub, dual voice coil, single? traditionally a 4 channel should be used to run mids/highs....a 2 channel amp or mono amp would be the right choice...
