Amp/Sub Wiring Question

Hello everyone....quick question. If I have a 4-channel amp that can be bridged down to 2 channels, when I do that I will have a positive and negative left (from channel 1 & 2) and a positive and negative left (from channel 3 & 4)....can I take the 2 positives and 2 negatives and connect them to 1 subwoofer & just have both the channels I have left feeding the woofer??? Thanks

You're sub would probably not even work if wired like that. Do you have a dual voice coil or single voice coil sub and what is the ohm?

I was basically trying to use an entire 4-channel amp to run 1 subwoofer. I just found out that another way to do that is the sub is DVC, co I can bridge channel 1 & 2 and wire that to 1 voice coil and bridge channel 3 & 4 and wire that to the other voice coil....as long as I use a test tone and level match with a volt meter. Thanks for you help!

Well, actually he said it right. So long as he level matches the first two channels vs. the second two channels he should be fine. I get the feeling, if he's wanting to use a 4chan as a sub amp, he isn't dealing with a huge amount of wattage here, so he'll be fine.

I probably wouldnt do that to my own sub... You can match the the volts going to the coils but impedance is still dynamic; so the coils wouldnt always have the same resistance when playing. So power to each coil would be close but never exact. Thats just what I think though... Could be wrong

i am still correct. thanks
No you're not - not any more. The original poster is now talking about putting the amp into 2 channel mode and wiring each voice coil to it's own channel. While he is running only 1 sub the amp will be running in 2 channel.

You'd be better off for equipment safety having two independent subs running off their own channels over running one on both channels. But then you might as well just by a mono amp instead.

first post = what i said. i dont care (you are telling me you CAN in fact run a 4ch down to 1ch. please explain...)

don't argue with me when i know i'm right //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Well you're just making yourself out to be a big ***. The amp would not be running in 1 channel on a dual voice coil if you wire each voice coil independently on the bridged two channels of the amp. It would be like wiring two seperate subwoofers on their own channel.

he's trying to bridge a 4ch to 1ch. will not work like that
^^ that is correct. tell me if i am wrong...

you fail to understand my point. i will not bother with you anymore.
