Amp/Sub question

I have a JL W6v2 12" Subwoofer being powered by the JL E1800D Amplifier. I am trying to find the right gain setting for this one sub because I have had it cut out on me a few times because the amplifier is protecting me from I guess over driving it. I was wondering if any of you could give me some tips on how I should set this gain so I do not end up burning the voice coil out or anything like that.

-Thanks in advance-

Trey

it'll be easier for others to help you if you give more info about the sub & amp specs.

to me the name "JL E1800D Amplifier" sounds like an 1800w mono class d amp to me, (too lazy to search) and shouldn't be going into protection mode powering only one 12" w6.

That is stupid.

Any amplifier can go into protection mode when powering any speaker. It depends on if you set the gain correctly...

Read the gain setting tutorial, and next time search...

if he gave more info, then it wouldn't be stupid.

Did he say how he set the gains?

did he say the specs of the amp?

specs of the sub?

...stupid.

You said the amp shouldnt be going into protection mode with 'only one' w6v2, that is a dumbass statement because it could easily go into protection mode if he incorrectly set the gain and it was clipping.

I don't like to assume

Assuming are for *****. assume all you want.

IF that amp is what it sounds (by the name) it would blow that freakin sub b4 going into protection.

The reason I didnt go into detail and give specs is because I thought the W6 was a pretty well known sub... anywho its 600watts continuous at 12.5 V and 1000 continous at 14.5 V ... my gain is set a little less then half way, the sub is rated at 400 watts RMS however JL always underrates so I would rate it at 500 RMS
