Today i was installing Polk Momo mmc6500 running off a planet audio 150.4. i wired up the driver side door just as the instructions said. checked it more than five times to make sure it was correct. played everything for about 5 min then proceeded to put the door panel back on.

when i put the door panel back on i decided to play it a few more minutes to see how it sounded. my gain on my amp was completely turned to its lowest setting so i decided to turn it up. with the music playing i started to turn up the gain when before i get the gain even 1/4 turned up everything goes crazy

the music goes to static and weird squeeling noises, one of my subs (wired on a separate amp) starts moving in and out and the amp immediately starts smoking. i quickly turn it off and there are clouds of smoke coming out of the amp.

i stand there a minute thinking about what just happened and decided to turn it back on and see what happens. there is nothing no music, no sound at all, the green lights on my amps are on like there is nothing wrong. no fuses are blown anywhere in the car.

anyone have any idea what i did wrong, what i broke, and how to fix it?

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

There has to be some fuses blown somewhere, and check the amp's internal's.
i checked the fuses on my amp, under the hood, everything is getting power. wheni turn the power on my car the green light on my amps turn on and everything like nothing is wrong! yeah i will def open the amp tomorrow. im just worried i blew my new speakers... there wasnt any smoke coming from them and they didnt smell like when speakers blow so i think they are all right.

take a AA battery and touch 1 speaker wire to the positive and the other to the negative and see if you have any movement, if so you didnt blow them. my guess is that your amp isnt stable at the ohm you were running your speakers.

i just had it coming out of the crossover for single input.... should of been running at 4 ohm.

if so what do you think i broke there was alot of smoke coming from the amp!

To be honest it sounds like a blown mosfet
how old is each thing?
sorry didnt see your message bought the car with the amp in it, the amp cant be more than 2 years old been in this car since it was new. has ran perfectly fine until today when i turned up the gain and as my hand was still on the gain knob this all happened!!!!

Blown mosfet? scrap the amp or worth fixing?

sounds like something that happened to me. My crossover exploded because my ******* amp went haywire and blew up my crossover's capacitor (100 volts!) WTF? (btw gain was 1/4)

I even tested for a short and the wires were fine...same ones i had used for both my old and this current system, and they worked only a few days before then.

needless to say i sent the amp back for a refund...i don't know if that helps, but for me it was the amp.

I just hate when that stuff happens. Get everything all ready and installed and BOOM your f'd.

that does help me out somewhat. thanks what puzzles me is that the amp has the red protect light and the green light... the green light is on like their is nothing wrong, and there isnt a blown fuse anywhere in the car.

anyone else have a take on this
