Amp Shutting off

Okay well here's the deal. I just got a new sub in, Arc Audio 12D4 and it wired for 2 ohms. And when i hook it up, it'll play it for like 5 min and then the amp will shut off. I turn off the car, turn on the car again and the amp comes back on and then again maybe a few minutes later the amp shuts off. The weird thing, the only thing i switched was the sub. I had an IDQD4 in there as well hooked up to 2 ohms it never shut off. If this matters, the gains were set through an oscope with clipping at volume 70 with gains and i usually play the music around 65 if that means anything. So what could be the problem? any help appreciated. thanx.

Yeah, the only thing I can think of is that the sub is wired at too low of an impedance...but its funny that it would play for 5 minutes and then shut-off, usually if the impedance is too low it will shut off as soon as you turn the volume up...Dude this ones kinda got me stumped.

hmm well, it'll play for a bit then when i go back there to see if the amp is hot, it somewhat warm but not hot at all. i'm really confused. i just switched subs. it played fine with the IDQ wired to 2 ohms. maybe the arc is actually lower?

yeah but not that big of a difference... when a sub gets hotter the empedence rises this is called the empedence curve if your old box was causing the sub to get hotter than your new box that could be it but i doubt it did you go from sealed to ported

^ No tested the sub with a dmm and it is dual 4 ohm. i also took the dmm at the amp and the final load says its 2 ohm.

so here's what i did. I was playing the song "if i ever fall in love" by Shai. And if you don't know this song, this song at the beginning freaking slams. I played the music at about 65/80 with oscope set at clipping at 70. anyways with the arc, after maybe the second bass hit, it would shut off. So i proceeded to turn off the car and on again and played the song again. Again maybe after the 2nd or 3rd bass hit, the sub/amp would shut off. I threw the ID in and played the song and it played without a problem. So can it be thats it a bad sub?

gotdamit, the ID just shut off. it must be the amp i guess. but does an amp need to be hot to go into protect? i'm guessing not but i had to ask to make sure. the US Amps is cool as it can be. i mean today i drove to school (about a 10 min drive) and the arc played fine. i guess its just when the bass hits hard that it shuts off....
