amp same brand as head unit or speakers

My opinion is you don't need to have the same brand and match up. I have a Pioneer HU with 2 Kenwood amps and Pioneer speakers and 2 Polk Subs Sounds great.
Build a system that works for you and you enjoy.

just match gear and setup with goals. brands dont matter if theyre matched or not
