Amp Question...

Maybe I need to clarify my question. I'm a newbie so bear with me...

I heard that for my car, 2 ohm sub is optimal. So do I need a 5 channel amp or can I just get an amp for my single subwoofer and let the HU power the other speakers? What do you guys think?

5 channel if you plan on amping your factory speakers, however most can't handle more than 20rms. The hu will put out roughly 12-14watts already. If you just want to add a sub, look into a mono amp or 2 channel and bridge. Are you looking for just a little bass? Alot? Clarity?

sooo sorry to ruin this thread if i do but i also need help on deciding what amp to get, i am buying 2 Rockford Fosgate p3's 12" 1200 watt peak 2 ohms

honestly i am just looking for a amp that is under $400 that will give me the best match. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Just a little bass. I guess I'll just go with mono amp. I'm still a bit confused about 2 ohm and 4 ohm subs. Since I'm going with mono amp, I need to stick to 2ohm subs correct?

Does d 2 mean dual voice coil?
If so, it doesn't matter whether I get a 2 ohm or 4 ohm subs for a mono amp?
doesnt matter what ohm the sub is, just that it matches up with the amp. for typical mono-amps, the higher the impedance, 1,2,4 the lower the power, but the less strenuous on your electrical system due to increased efficiency.

i think youll be great on the 300-500 watt systems. and a dayton HO 12 sub would do great. or a sundown E-12/SD-12, SSA Dcon, Diamond D6
