Amp? Problem

I hope this is in the right place, and i think its an amp problem. But anyways here we go.

I got a JL Audio 500/1 amp and two alpine type r 1242D's, and it sounds great but when i turn it up they like reset and start hitting again. I watched the amp and it doesnt hit protection mode, the power light doesnt blink or anything. Now one question i have, im using 8gauge power/ground wire, and is that too thin? Also, i have a 1.5 farad capacitor i have yet to install. But is this lack of power or more of a thermal shutdown? The amp gets warm, but it doesn't get hot. Also its in a hatchback and its like 80 degrees out. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

EDIT: Putting this in there, they do hit hard as hell, so i don't think its sub related. They slam but once i get to like 14-15 volume on my cd player (max 35 or something) they reset. **** bass is so loud i cant hear the lyrics though. Little more info, cd player has no eq set, bass is on -10, amp crossover is around 50 hz, no +db's for bass or anything on the amp. I got like everything turned down, and there in a big single slot ported box.

id say lack of power, do a search on the "big 3" and ditch the cap. consider a small battery like a kinetik hc600

what are your subs wired to?

2 ohms or half ohm?

Ive heard about the big three and looked at it a while ago. isnt it something to do with grounding the alternator to the battery then to the chassis?

There each dual voice coil 4 ohms and i have them bridged to 2 ohm. Black to black, red to red on each sub. Then to the terminals on the box.

EDIT: Jl says the amp is 500watt rms stable @ 1.5 - 4 ohms.

u have each sub at 2 ohms

then bridging them together brings it down to 1 ohm

But im not bridging the subs together. Only at the subs are where they meet, everywhere else they have there own connections.

Your amp is a mono amp. Even though you are hooking up each terminal to a different place on the amp you're still running it in parallel. Your amp doesn't have stereo output. Therefore you are running that amp at 1 ohm.

Wired the subs a diff way, and got 4 gauge wire. Everythings good to go now. Thanks
