Amp problem, internal or external?

Well my friend gave me his power acoustik LT980/2 to look at to see wtf was wrong with it. He kept telling me that his wiring was bad in his car and that was the problem. Well he gave it to me to hook up in my car to see if it was and it still didnt work in my car. The amp immediately goes into protect mode the second it receives power. I have changed all the fuses and it still wont work. Is the problem internal? If so is it fixable? He let me have it to keep and i would hate to throw away this amp.
