Amp not getting power

I got my amp today, and hooked it up but it wouldn't turn on. I got the multimeter and there's no power at the end of the wire.

Could it be a bad ground? I'm going to try a new spot now,

Or did I hook it up to the battery wrong? I don't have a new battery terminal, I just unscrewed the stock one and kind of ran the screw through the wire's connector.

Ok, so I relocated the ground and I'm getting 12v at the connections, but it still won't power on. I'm also getting alternator whine when I turn the car on, but the amp won't turn on. Maybe the amp is bad? I just bought it off eBay.

Silly question but did you properly connect the remote activation lead?

What kind of amp are we talking about here, anyway?

I'm pretty sure I connected the remote wire correct, but I tried it without that hooked up and it still didn't turn on.

It's an Alpine MRV-T503

Does the remote wire go to the solid blue or blue with white stripe off the HU?

Blue with the white stripe.

Usually if there is two different ones the solid blue will be for electric antenna activation and will only have power when in tuner mode.

no you need the Remote wire ran to the amp to turn it on. it wont turn on with out it.

Absolutely correct.

The power and ground connections are simply that.

They provide 12v positive power and ground to earth connections.

Without the remote activation lead attached the amp will not receive the necessary input signal telling it when to turn on and off.

Hmm, I tried using the blue with white stripe, but I'm getting the same results. With the wiring harness it should be three wires spliced together right? (including the remote turn on lead)

At a guess, however, no - you shouldn't have three wires spliced together for amp power...

I mean the wiring harness for the HU. I have two wires connected for the HU, and then the remote wire from the amp.

the wiring harness needs all the wires hooked up. and take a short wire and run it from the positve terminal on the amp, over to the remote terminal on the amp, and see if it turns on and works.

to test the amp you can just make a small wire and run it from the power of the amp to the remote line just to see if it will turn on

Tried with and no luck turning on, should I have taken out the line to the HU before trying it?
