amp help, please

Right now, i have four 12" Legacy subs with 2 UltraLinear 800W mono amps that i'm looking to upgrade. i got the amps cheap from a friend, and they are rated stable at 2ohms but keep goin into protection when i turn em up about 2/3 max. Anyway, i was thinking i would upgrade the amps first, then the subs later. what should i look at for 4 12's in a sealed enclosure, i was thinking one 2-channel amp or two mono channel amps. thoughts/suggestions?

how about one mono....what ohm subs and are they dual coils or single coil

the subs are 4 ohm svc wired parallel in pairs @ 2ohms. but thats just what is in there for now, they are cheap, just starter subs and hopefully won't stay long. as far as budget...i really don't know where to put a price...500 for amp(s) and probably 600 for the four subs

all you need is a mono amp thats 1 ohm stable. even when you upgrade, if you buy svc 4 ohm subs, the one ohm stable amp will work or you could get 4 dual 2 ohm coil subs and wire them to 1 ohm.

for instance....you could upgrade your subs to 4 Kicker CVR dual 2 ohm coils...would cost about $300 shipped from ebay...and you could use a Hifonics BXI-2006.. about 2000 watts at 1 ohm for around $300 shipped from ebay. Thats $500 under your budget which you could easily upgrade your electrical system with or buy a bunch of girl scout cookies.

so i need a 1 ohm stable mono, what should i look at for power to run 4 good 12's? probably dual 2 ohms

or you could drop down to just 2 12"s and a good amp and easily outperform the legacys and amps you got now

thats fine....i think you would be pleasantly suprized to hear the 4 CVR's and the BXI-2006...how much better it would sound over your current sound. Altho, i must warn you that you may need to upgrade you battery and do the big three to support the power increase

i expect a new battery in my near future, upgrades or not...(NeverStart ftl) so that's not too big of a deal, and i've already done some of the big three. My biggest goal is to get an amp that really can drive some subs, and subs that can handle the new amp. the amps i have now are crap...but you get what you pay for..

they are...its just like any piece of electronics....treat it right and it'll take care of you. lots of people use them.
