okso yesterday i tottaly thought i blew my amp but i guess not becuase it just started working after being unhooked for awhile

i have 2 12" 150w kickers at 8ohms each and a 300w 2 channel kicker amp

but when i listen to it at a certain volume it goes off then i have to turn it down and wait for the amp to turn back on

whats causing this?

it never did this before btw

get a multimeter and check your final impedience value at the connection of the subs to the amp. Make sure its not some stupid low value which your amp does not like. Other than that, it might be an electrical failure (ie:low voltage, bad ground) - OR - the amp is on its last leg and the protection circuit is acting up or a FET is about to fail completely.

i read teh ohms from the amp going through the subs and it was 4 ohms

edit: and the voltage going through the amp wasnt low

Well then either your amp is about to take a poop or your voltage/grounding measures are faulty.

Check the voltage at the amp at the exact moment the amp goes into protection - make sure its getting over 11 volts at least.

would it have anything to do with how my gain, bass boost, or x-over nobs are set?
Yes, it could.

Some amps will kick into protection at high volumes due to improperly set gain (too high) or excessive bass boost.

Where are these set?

Nothing to do with the xover though.

there are set like a little less than 3/4

and xover is like frequency or soemthing

The xover doesn't matter.

For the gain and bass boost......if you have them both ~ 3/4 of the way up, chances are good you have one and/or both of them way too high and lowering them to proper levels would resolve your issue.

Leave the bass boost at zero, and then read up on how to properly set the gain.

i say your clipping balls from a cranked gain, add voltage dropps and the amp is getting way to hot/sending itself into thermal protect. lower your gain/or set with a dmm and i bet it will stop. if not its your ground.

i lowered my nobs and relocated my ground
