i finaly got back from my trip and tore back into my truck and i finally got it working. it is the jbl cs50.4. i hooked it all up and i could smell something hot so i went down to my speakers and it was them so i turned my amp down until i could turn the volume on the hu up and i couldnt smell it. so now the gain on the amp is less than halfway. i stopped listening and went to my backseat to move the amp so i could go get my sub and hook it all back up and i picked up that amp and it was extremely hot. my pg xenon amp has never ever gotten that hot. should i be concerned?

edited to be gramatically correct...

Its probably hot cause the speakers are now shot and shorting or somthing of that nature... lol... if you're speakers smell blown, change em.... get stronger ones //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

they are 150/300 pg xenons. it may be the wooden spacers i made as well cause i can smell paint too(which i painted black). i just went back outside and played them some more and it smelled less like it. but the amp was still getting very hot.

the speaker smell is definitely the paint, but the amp went into protect mode after about an hour. i was playing it with my hu maxed out but still, i wouldnt think that it should overheat that fast.

is there any reason for my amp to get so hot it overheats after about an hour of play? cause if there isnt im sending it back and getting a kenwood cause it has a fan on it. and my amp will be mounted somewhere that doesnt have the greatest cooling and junk.

get the xenon 200.2 like I have. Its a beauty. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif The sound quality is amazing. I couldnt believe the difference of this amp compared to my mtx 564. The xenon kills it.

i would, i just dont have that much money to drop into another amp at the moment. the x200.2 is 250+

are there any other decent amps for around 130 or 140 that do 150x2? im looking at the kenwood 7252 and the pg octane 5.0.4. the kenwood is supposed to be cea 2006 compliant so im kinda leaning towards it over the pg also because it has a fan on it.

my amp did exactly what yours did. it was getting hot really quick and then the sound slowly started to go. eventualy the bass cut out alltogether then it went to protection.....REALLY REALLY HOT too. amp never worked again plug it in and automaticly goes to protection. mine was a cheap soundstorm laboratories.

The xenon 100.2 will be plenty for you. Just get that amp. I used to have 70 watts on my xenons, and they performed well. Obviously you will get more out of them with 200, but for your setup 100 to each will work, since you only have one sub to begin with. Ide suggest you get it from audio savings. They will warranty everything you purchase from them, and ive never had any problems from them.
