Amp gets really hot?!

hey before you wire it up again please find out what impedence your amp is reading, take the measurement right from the + and - terminals on the amp... use your DMM with the ohm setting if you can figure that out.

I've seen -49 before, stupid northern latitudes...

Well i had it hooked up one way and they told me it was wrong and it NEVER overheated before then... I went in to have my gain set and they told me it was fine...Im just going to hook hook it up like i had it before like in the rockford pic

Okay so i got my subs wired like that pic. they amp isn't as hot but gets pretty warm. So when i set my gain with a 0db tone the subs are not loud at ALL so someone told me to use a -3db tone and i have to have my gain maxed out to get it 46.9 volts. what could be the problem? i have a Alpine CDE-9874 2 volt pre out and like i said in the OP a MRP-M1000 alpine amp

I am useing a 50 hz tone

i did that. I used a 50 hz tone at 0db and the subs are not loud at all now. i set it 46.9 volts, so then i tried using a -3db tone and i had to max the gain all the way out to get to 46.9. could that be my amp? i have a 0ga wire running to my amp but only a 100amp inline fuse. problem?

So should i use a -3db tone or a 0db tone? 50 or 60 hz? i use my iPod all the time on my deck so should i tune it with a tone on that or a CD Cds seem to play quite a bit louder.

When you set the gain using a 0db test tone, you are being overly safe in my opinion. Most music is not a 0db test tone. I think it MAY be safe to set it with a -6db tone on a cd. After you set it with a -3db or -6db tone, play a normal cd and if things seem to be distorting readjust.
