Amp Gains

Just trying to clear up something for my self.....

If a sub is rated for 600w rms and you give it double its power with very little bass boost gain, will it handle the power efficiently without doing damage to the speaker as apposed to using the rms rating and maxing out the bass boost gain... will more power and less gain deliver better results to the driver...

need a little in put...

You can't really make either statement with any degree of certainty. There are a lot of variables at play. If you are clipping the crap out of an amp rated at the same power as the sub, yes you will probably kill it, but you can't say that with certainty. Unclipped power (with or without bass boost) listening to music, the thermal rating of the sub isn't nearly as important as the mechanical. Bass boost by itself isn't a bad thing. The problem comes when one thinks that you can crank the gain higher than it shoud be anyway and then add bass boost on top of that. Hello clipping. Gain from the bass boost is not different than gain from another source. It still requires power to realize that gain. If that extra powr demand drives the amp into clipping, there is your problem.

You can safely use a 1200 watt amp on a 600 watt sub as long as you adjust the gains properly. I try not to use the bass boost more than a few clicks at most to adjust to different recordings after the gains are set. I'm not much of an SPL guy though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.

just wanted to know, i dont wanna over power my 2 cw 15's when my massive audio 3000.1 shows up, they say that that amp pushes around 2600 rms @ 1 ohm and my subs are rated at like 600 rms and 1200 peak but i seen snoopdan run a ton of power to 1 cw 12 i think is was a mtx 1501 d on it and he said it handled it fine. i just wanna get a big amp beacause i know that down the road i will change my set up and i will change the subs before i will change the amp.....
