Amp fried yet again...

One of the cleanest systems I have heard was 2 Alpine type R 15s sealed up in 2.5 cubes each. They were on a Power Bass 2.5k @ 1 ohm. I could not believe that they could sound that good sealed. Its all about the amount of power you can supply them with.

So how much power do you suggest I give two 12 inch Type R's? They are 500 RMS each, 1500 peak. I thought they sounded pretty amazing in my amateur at best ported box on 1300-1400 watts.

Im sure thats fine. Are those the older models? Arent the new ones 600 RMS? I was surprised that they took the power so well. But then again, they were sealed up. I think he did like a 145 in a Chevy Malibu.

 they are the 2nd generation model, so 500 rms, got them secondhand from my brother after he failed to pay me back for money I lent him. So they are pretty old but still hit very hard.

So you did not mount your amp? You set the gain to max rms at 14.4v? You turned your hu past 40 and boosted your eq? And you have to us why you keep blowing amps. You should be glad your alive.

I am very glad to be alive //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Guess I felt like the amp should be able to handle all of that for some reason. I just want to push the Type R's to their maximum potential. Looks like a better amp/more careful tuning is needed in my next setup. Thanks

'ffft thats for sure I didn't know you had the gain all the way up, next time you get your amp hit me up (I texted you just now send a text back if you got it) and I'll see when I can come over and help haha.

3rd gen can take well over 1,000rms I ran mine daily on that for over 1.5years. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Okay there is not an amp on this planet that can handle being unmounted on top of your box. The only thing that is keeping your amp from falling off of your box is the wires. When those wires start to move, they can arc and mess your equipment up. You should do some reading on how to properly install a system before something bad happens.

Yea... that's definitely one of the worst ways to set a gain, at least you burnt it to a CD... I've got some 50hz tones I could email you if you'd like. and I hope you meant you set it to put out 37-38v... not Hz. Which, if you did, that should be fine. Bass boost is off right? And you're wired at 1 ohm I presume? Sounds like your amp is grounded well. And what wiring do you have, is it true-to-size 4 gauge? What other settings do you have tweaked on the HU?

Yes sorry I meant Volts haha, Bass boost was at 0, and yup the two type r's were wired down to one ohm.

My amp is wired with 4 gauge Fierce Audio wiring that I stupidly bought from Best Buy awhile ago. All settings on the HU are default when I tune the amp, and yes I would like it if you emailed me that test tone, email is jack_plantin@live.com

The gain settings weren't all the way up though, they were at about 45%. I tuned it with a DMM but obviously I shouldn't be using 1400/1400 watts available from the amp.

im not trying to start a argument but i have the Planet audio bb2400.1, set to 2175rms @ 1ohn(via dmm) bouta go ahead and set it to 2200rms. with stock 100a alt, 1 stock batt, and 2 other batts that are not close to being as good as your batts. my voltage stays from 12.5v-13v sometimes higher depending on the song freq. i had a amp before that fried for no reason what so ever. it sounds like theres a connection problem somewere.
