Amp adjustment help, switching subs

I currently have 2 10" w3s powered by a JL slash 500 1v2. I am getting rid of these subs, and replacing with a single 8" w3. What exactly do I need to adjust on the amp settings when switching between these subs? I had a friend tell me all i need to do is just turn down the input sens, but I dont trust him (hes an idiot) and I dont want to damage the new sub.

a single 8w3 is 4 ohm and i think the jl 500/1 does 250 at 4 ohms. so you should be fine just hooking it up and setting the gains properly.
not true ,the amp does 500 watts rms from 2-4 ohms ,so yes you will need to turn down the gain to compensate for the smaller sub,but only if it takes less power.if it takes the same power as the 10's then leave it alone

So am I fine by just turning down the input sens, or are there some other knobs that need to be toned down.

you can with it on ,but you really should do it with a dmm.as long as you have a clean signal from the deck to the amp and out to the woofer ,you should be fine. there is a sticky somewhere on the forum explaining how to adjust the gains with a dmm

THanks for the responces

is dmm a multimeter? I dont have one of those. What problems or damage could i run into or cause by just adjusting input sens with subs on and listening to when it sound how i want it? I was just going to turn input sens all the way down and hook up subs, then turn deck volume up to about 50% and slowly turn up the sens on the amp until it gets to how loud i want it. Is this a bad idea

Just saw post above, thanks for link

it can be ,but if you dont have a multimeter ,$25 at home depot or less for one that will work.alot of people do it by ear and then later wonder why they blew up they're woofers.i'm just saying
