I have a alpine MRD-605

it goes to CUR mode when it hits a hard bass,

so I have to turn off everything and then it will come back up....

when playing at low volume it works fine,,,,, can it be my wiring ? is not sheilded properly ?

this happen to me with this amp once... I had everything and when I went and try to screw the amp down... once my screw touched the metal on the amp where the screw hole is... it made a little spark and the CUR came up...and i was liek HOLLY FUK... i tosted my amp..... i did some reading and if the amp code is CUR it means too much current is going to amp so it shutsoff to protect itself... my question is... is it my wiring problem ? or is it my gain is set to high ? or my subs are inproperly setup ?

my subs are JL 10w6v2 i have it set as parrellel @ 2ohms...

I think the battery cable and negative cable that goes to the amp.... is not sheilded properly.. I might put some electrical taape around it later to make sure.. also will put some eletrical tape around the speaker wires as well....

do you think I have a bad amp ? it worked fine for few days when I had the gains set very low.... I might have the gains inproperly set... I will also set that.... I had it set for 38Volts , according to the charts I should have it set for 34volts

pleaseeeeeee help ^^

amp is going into protect is my guess. turn the gain down, check the security of your connections especially your ground wire.

Put a dmm on it. My guess is low voltage
I have a dmm but can you be a little more detailed and tell me how to use it ? I m not good at this kind of stuff but with good guidence i am sure I can manage...

so I take my DMM and where do i put the positive and negative to ? and I am setting the dmm to VAC correct ? what voltage am i looking for ?

my car is putting out 13.7 voltage with car on..

on my amp it also has a voltage reading it wil show 13.x voltage...

thanks.

I'm not sure why you would set your gains with a DMM at the proper voltage and then just add 4 volts for fun. You might as well just set your gains by ear since you're throwing that logic out of the window anyways. Either way, when your base hits what does your voltage drop to? I know the Alpine has an LCD read-out. I would also throw a DMM on the + and - of your battery when the bass hits to see what your voltage is dropping to. The amp may only update the readout in 2 second intervals and theoretically you could miss your voltage drop on the amps readout.

The CUR error code is probably in the MANUAL.

My guess is that your amp is not receiving enough CURRENT and is going into protect to keep from blowing from low input voltage.

hook the DMM up and put it on low hold to see what your voltage drops to.

so I am putting my dmm to the battery ? or to my sub outputs on the amp ?

and this is with my subs hooked up and playing music correct ?

my alternator on the car is a 120amp alternator..

I have a 2003 bmw 530i... stock alternator ..just replaced.. and the battery that I have in the car is a Duralast 49DL

CUR message on display, I read the manual and it says excessive current and i need to reduce the current.

ok back to troubleshooting, first I will make sure all wires are clean and nothing is shorting anything out...... I did some reading and it could also be my speaker wires even a little strand can cause this problem..if they touch each other... I am guessing its my wires... cuz the amp was fine few days ago until I tired to clean it up and tie all cables nicely..... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif.//

i get 1.68 ohms on that sub BTW. is that alpine amp stable that low?

DMM on power and ground inputs to the amp DC volts

i just read where you said a screw touched the amp. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif speaker wire?? or input ?? and it hasn't worked since??? it might be fried my friend.

well im sure my amp is not fried....cuz it goes into protection mode... which is CUR

after a hard base hits... when im playing low volume its ok... I may have a short somewhere, I will have to redo the install again and make sure all wires are ok....

so what I will do later is take my DMM set it to VDC ? and then use the positive and negative from the DMM and measure the AMP POWER and Ground correct ? what number should I be seeing ?

the alpine mrd-605 is rated 600w x1 at 2ohms and 400w at 4ohms.

your manual should give an operaitonal range. I wouldn't go below 11v though. Re-check all connections and make sure you use large enough power and ground wire.

check for any stray strands at any connection. at the sub and at the amp. it would only take a few strands at the speaker connection terminals at either end of the wire.

the manual said 14v, but my car is only giving off 13.7 I have not seen it give more then 13.7... I have seen less but not more.....the lowest I seen it give off is 11.8.. and its not a constant...it flucuates all over...... but mainly stays around 13.7volts.

could that be a problem ?

nah. 11.8 is okay.

let's eliminate the speaker

i'd re-run that speaker wire. to check, disconnect the speaker wire from the amp and turn the volume up to see if you get CUR

then connect the speaker wire and not the sub and turn the volume up, look for same.

then re-connect the sub and turn the volume up. see if the issue is the sub or the wire.

will definately do this.... thanks for the support...wont get to this until tomorrow car is at my brothers house. will post results later...
