Space available (Length x Width x Height): 18x32x16.5

Subwoofer make and model: American Bass HD 15

Subwoofer Size: 15

Number of Subwoofers: 1

Type of Port (Kerfed, Slot, Aero, etc.): Might need some advice on that but currently slot

What type of music do you like?: Rock, Country, Hip Hop, Rap, and Dubstep

Is your goal SPL or Everyday Music?: Everyday

Tuning Freq (Hz): 35-37

Volume : 3.5-4 cu ft

Questions:Was wondering what people thought of the design and if I should change up the design am open to suggestions. I know that it is a big woofer with little space and that is why I am trying to find something that will sound decent and fit my trunk. I have another plan but basically the same only woofer up. Plan on running with American Bass pushing 2k rms. Thats all I can think of so far if you have any other questions let me know.

Umm a smaller box will prolly yield better results but good luck. I know the TNT line hates big boxes and my hd12 is only in 2 cubes tunes to 32hz and it sound great I kinda want to tune higher but it sounds great

I would say your design looks spot on. Love all the bracing you added. I think you may have a little trouble fitting that in a neon though and have to go smaller.

Can I ask, did you learn how to do the Sketchup from my video?

Nope I am an avid CAD user I was a little rusty at first but got the hang of it down in no time. That is the dimensions of my current box that I had a pair of 12s in until I blew one. I know it will fit but it is a tight fit at that. No ones stealing this this in under a half hour thats for sure. Most of the people I find say use a 3.5-4 cubic foot box but I have not been able to talk to anyone that has really experimented with the box size and this subwoofer. This one is currently at 3 cf but not sure how much of a difference it will make.

Heres a new design that I have been toying with along the same lines just sub up also have one with port to the side but unless it fits in sideways isn't going to do me much good (I realized that after I had built it)This one will get bracing just like the other one to mainly make sure that it holds the woofer up.

Your second design does not have enough port area 7.97 per is going to choke that sub, shoot for minimum of 14 cu.in per cube.

Go with the first design, sub and port to the back has been proven to work well in trunks cars

electrical/acoustic engineers swear by sub and port on the same plane... @keep_hope_alive ;

the only thing about the first design is that there is only 2 inches left to right and 3 inches above for the enclosure to actually breath around. Most people I have talked to say that it is too tight for a rear/rear to sound good. I might be able to make it up/up and I have heard a couple of recommendations on sub pointing towards the cab and the port to the rear just not sure how to design the box and if that would sound decent at all.

My first box had 0 clearence on the sides and maybe 3in across the top and it sounded great. I would build the first design and if you don't like it, another sheet of wood is only ~$30.

You could also slightly shrink your port size to 14sq in per cube instead of 15, that should free up some space.

i think port and sub should be in the same plane unless you are looking to achieve different tuning once in the car. the port provides acoustic (air) loading as well as allowing sound from the back to combine with the front. port and sub on different sides introduces a very complex relationship that may or may not work well - most people either get lucky or attempt to apply what worked in one vehicle to all vehicles. it really depends on the vehicle and more importantly the placement in that vehicle. the further either port or sub are away from vehicle sides/corners - the more phase interference you will have.

OK I think I will try my first box and if that doesn't seem to sound how I like it I will build the second one. The worst that can happen is I don't like the second one and put the first one back in. I did fix the second one realized after that I didn't have the proper amount of port thanks to @gramser57. Thanks for the input. Hoping to get this built in between christmas and new years but the way work is looking I won't be able to until sometime in January.

+1 on the first box. Mine is similar but tuned to 25 hz. It's a big box with port and sub on same plane firing into the rear of my trunk. As long as you can work it in and out of the trunk if you need access to your spare tire, you're golden.

Well I don't have a spare tire in the trunk just didn't come with it(think the previous owner took it before I bought it, or she drove on it until it blew) I just have road side and if need be I have an extra set of tires in the garage at home. Was also wondering if I would have any success on making it sound right if I were to enclose the trunk space adding to the total box volume, but am not sure if it would sound right or not just pondering now.
