Am I paying to much for an install

I have a 99 E55 amg with the stock Bose system no nav. I just went to a friends installer that does all his installs. He qouted me $1300 to install the following.

Kenwood 7" single din DVD with external brain

6.5" componets for the front

6.5" coaxials for the rear

install my mono and 4 channel amp in my trunk well on a wood plate.

And build a custom box that will port thru the rear deck where the stock Bose speakers use to be. Then a cover plate to cover the setup in trunk to look oem with matching carpet.

I just feel this is hella for a pretty straightforward install. He said he was charging me $100 for the deck and $200 for the speakers and the rest was for the amps and building the custom box. Does this sound right $1000 for amps and custom box? If not what should I be looking to pay?

you got to remember your bose system is a fiber optic system which has to be completely by passed, and rewired.also a custom box ported thru the rear deck isnt as easy as it sounds, very time consuming system 1-3 days by its self, especially if you want it to sound good with no problems,i'd say you got a fair price for what your car is and what has to be done. id say the whole system installed with box should take about 3-5 days if done properly.

100 bucks for the hu is stupid, **** shops. A dvd player is about the same install as a regular hu except for the parking break. Id charge like 30 bucks to do one.

Now all that fabricating in the trunk could possibly be worth the money if you dont have the skillz. I would say **** the flashy and just build a normal box and save urself like 950 dollars.

True, forgot about that...

What should I be paying for an install like this?

I do know he has to make plates for the 6.5" speakers and the rear box was going to be a a major part of it to have it port into the car thru the rear deck. But what should I be looking to pay?

See if you can find a local enclosure designer/builder on the forum. I couldn't see paying more than a couple hundred bucks for an enclosure, unless it's humongous or extremely intricate.
