i have an audiobahn sub aw121t 12' 400rms dual 4ohm model

i have it in a 1.5cuf sealed box with an power acoustik 360rms amp

my sub has 4 inputs on the sub on each side my question is, i had only one set of inputs on one side of the sub hooked up. i think that means i only had one coil hooked.

my question when i listen to county music loud like 45/62 on my headunit and my headunit tuned on vocal for about a month. then when to mike jones and heavy bass lines and the sub sounded like something was hitting not bottoming out but something. and so i turned it loud on mike jones and like all of a sudden it sound worse and then about 1 min later my amp red light came on.

my qestion is only having it hooked up 1 coil cause it to misalgined easlier

or is it just cheaper audiobahn sh!t

p/s it make a loud hitting noise when u tap the side with your finger on the cone

ok but county music dont hit hard tho like rap so and my headunit on vocal and my gain is on all the minimum.

newbie question#2

would only have 1 voice coil hooked up cause it to f up quckier like it did here

question#3

a dual 4 ohm sub can only be wired at 2 or 8 ohms final load?

Wiring up only one coil is perfectly fine, if done properly.

Since you are only using a single coil, you are cutting every specification in half, including the box size and power.

Yes, you can easily damage a driver doing this, and it sounds like you did just that.

You probably just ****ed your sub up by turning the volume up....
If you have a dual voice coil subwoofer then you MUST wire BOTH VC's.....
Wrong.

Right

Wrong. My friend has two CVR 10s in his truck with only one coil on each sub hooked up. And they have been going for almost three years now like that

who said country music cant hit like rap?? my brother used to hit some serious db in his car listening to country. they use the real bass instrument and it can be very serious. and yes, once you get to the higher volume levels on a sub not fully wired, you can damage it fairly easy, no matter the type of music. the set of four on each side is so you can hook up one coil to another without having to smash two wires in the same hole. four holes go to the same hole, actually only being one coil, and then four more on the other side. but either way, next time, id find a way to operate both coils.

your right about blewing the sub my amp turns on but as soon as one bass note sounds it goes into protect, so yea iam sure of it.

but i got 3x more of the same audiobahn sub lol

what would yall do if yall where me with this sub, since i have an 4ohm stable amp bridged at 360rms

A: put the sub a 2ohms and turn the gain on minuim and turn my amp setting on the headunit down some?

or

B: put the sub on 8 ohms and turn everything up until the amp starts clipping?

dam!t should have goin a dual 2 ohm sub lol

Your best bet of the two is B. But performance will be less than stellar. Expect approx half the power it would put out at 4 ohm mono.

"A" could quickly get you a fried amp, unless it happens to have impedence protect. But even if it does it is not the route you want to go.

If I was you I would either sell the amp or the sub and get it so your amp and sub are matched for each other.

If you choose to sell your sub, a nice budget sub is the Ascedant Audio Assassin. It has a 4 ohm single coil. It it what I would recommend for you. For 90 bucks it is a lot of sub.
