Alternator woes

I think my alternator is overcharging.. my alt is 200amp alt from db electrical had one before worked great. This one now since i've installed it in my 2000 LS have noticed my lights get 2x brighter when i get up to 1200-1700 rpm. I expect a little more brighter but its honestly distracting at night. I checked voltage and i'm getting 14.9 on one occasion. Another indicator is that my amps shut off for a few seconds sometimes after leaving idle ( i'm guessing my amps shut off at 15 volts ( I have infinity kappa amplifiers ). I have big 3 done 1/0 naturally. my battery sits at 12.2 ( its just stock ). I don't know what to do. I want to just make sure i don't blow up everything. I called support for alternator and they suggest trying another battery ( really dont want to go buy another batt ) also I know my ground connects are good. unless i didnt do a good alternator ground ( in 1/0 ) because i wasnt the one who put it in. Sorry for the mumble jumble of inquires but I basically want to know if i'm showing symptoms of overcharging if so is it the alternators regulator? Any input would be greattt! Thanks!

I'm going through the same thing. I have a F350 Turbo Diesel with a Excessive Amperage 250 amp alternator in it. I JUST got the alternator two weeks ago. When I went to install it, I had to grind down my bracket because it was a large case and my old one was small, wish I knew I had too do that. After the install I checked it running 14.4 at the post, great. I only have like 900 watts in my truck, crank it up all good. Two weeks later (Last Wednesday) coming home from work, see my batt gauge bouncing. hook up a volt meter, same as you, back and fourth from 14.7 to 15.3 back and fourth at idle. I took the alt. off and put my stock one back on. I called EA Thursday, emailed him Friday, he got back to me this afternoon asking if I could bring it to a auto zone for a "checkup". I'm sending it to Ohio Generator, wish me luck

I quit fishing while it was still flooding, this time not even close to catching the limit. I put fresh batteries into my handheld GPS so I could still navigate into the river, and ran for camp. I arrived at high water and grabbed two new batteries out of the parts room. I also grabbed the battery tester, and fed upon the battery boneyard like a vulture, finding batteries with signs of life and bringing the three best along for the ride as sacrifices to the battery gods. I headed back into the night with all lights out to conserve the juice.

i have two h/o alts and the shop i got them from told me not to use wire larger than six gauge from alt to batt. they claim that the larger wire will cause the first diode to burn out. they said that they have replaced enough of the diodes over the years to know that the wire size was causing the problem. it is possable that that has somthing to do with the problems you all are having try asking whoever you got yours from and see if they have had the same problems.

wtf?

i would really look at your battery, how old is it? your battery is not just a storage power device but a filter also. have your battery load tested. replace it with the largest that will fit in its spot.
