Alternator Whine Problem....

I'm using an Exile 4 channel amp, 800.4 to be exact. I'm trying to run some rear speakers for fill and when I hook up the RCA cable to rear input of the amp, I get the whine. Only when I hook up the rear speakers, any ideas what would cause this and how do I fix it?

really only main thing to cause the whine is improper grounds, shotty RCA's, and Pioneer headunits are famous for this. I suggest checking all your grounds and make sure they have minimal resistance. Then try a different set of RCA's then the next only step is to ground the RCA jacks on back of the deck.

The first thing I thought was the rca's, it's the same with all cables. I actually think there is something wrong with the amp. I'm in the process of switching from an Alpine HU to a Kenwood, the whine is on both hu's.

If its a grounding issue why would it just be when I hook p the rear channel?

only one way to find out (bench test it)

You probably have a rear output touching chassis ground and the amp isn't going into protect mode.

Have you tried plugging the rear RCA into the front input on the amp? If the problem still persists it's upstream and if there's no noise, the problem is downstream. My guess is that you have an install related issue. Not a bad idea to make sure you have a good ground point either. metal protruding parts that are tack welded in place are generally bad grounding points. Ditto anything that has a layer of paint & primer between it and the sheet metal (like a seat rail).

When I take the front and plug it into the rear I dont have the noise. Im going to try finding another grounding point for my HU and see if that helps.
