Alternator upgrade

Hey guys I need some help with deciding what to do with my alternator. Last year my stock alternator was going bad so I replaced it with a 160amp from a stock 100amp (without the big 3 upgrade) and was running a lanzar vibe 4000w amp with 2 jbls 350rms each. I listened to my installer and didn't know any better. 2 months ago my amp went bad and I changed to a hifonics brx12000. Just recently I was stranded because my alternator died. I'm Thinking it's because I use to blast my speakers while my car was idling for long periods of time with lights dimming and no clue what damage it my cause. Anyways I need some guidance..what would be sufficient to power my system? I was looking to get a mechman 240amp alternator without a capacitor or extra battery

Go to Michael singers facebook and shoot him a message he makes some great alts. If it's a 1200 not a 12000 you should be ok with something around 250 270 you need to do the big three though probably was a huge part of your problem. No sense doing the alt and still having clogged arteries so to speak yeah?

Singer FTW !

Thanks for the advice.. sadly I didn't know what the "big three" was till after my alt was damaged and did some research. How long have you had your alternator running so far? I haven't heard of singer aalternators how would you compare them to mechman or excessive amperage ones?? And yea it's 1,200 thanks

Running 1.5k+ on stock 135 alt and stock batt. No drops below 13.4. Big 3 is essential.

Singer is the filet mignon of alts. A little more expensive than mechman but worth it if you can afford it if not mechman will be fine. Look up mylows10 in the electrical for sale section he can hook you up with all the big 3 parts he's a vendor and a great guy.

Just curious what you paid for yours? The mechman 240amp for my car is $400 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif i'm waiting on a price from singer and excessive amperage if tthey arent much more or even less then I'd definitely do it. Mylows prices are pretty low compared to stores. Thanks!

My 275 amp alt from Singer was $560 with a voltage bypass (rests at 14.2). Its a super, super stout alternator. I had a fit issue when I first got mine. Called Jim who sent me on to Mike. Sent it back to him and had it back within a few days. Support/Warranty is the best I have ever encountered. Yea you pay a little more for them, but you get lifetime warranty, they're all underrated (mine does 285 hot and 294 cold and was rated at 275...), and they are some stout, stout alternators.

Mechman is a good proven brand that is cheaper and is always a great alternative if price is an issue. DC Power is good, but they too are expensive and not as good as Singer (imo), many people are liking JS Ultimate Alts (new company), and there are several others. But Singer gets my vote.

Lol don't own a subaru... I paid 500 for my stinger 160 amp lol and I can't find anyone who does a bigger one that will bolt up w/o modifications... but Mylows is a great guy and he can get you a quote quite fast from stinger.

DC power was 600 for mine ..a little too much. I did just check out JS atl and the prices seem the lowest by far I might end up going with them depending on what singer is going to charge but I have a Toyota too so I imagine it would be close :/ Thanks for the recommendation!

DC power is the filet mignon. They build cases from scratch. **** CS and stupid long wait times though.
