also adding a solenoid or relay is optional. some people say you need some don't. it basically makes it where the rear battery doesn't draw on the front battery when the ignition is off, so if you play your system with the engine off it would be a good idea. also heard that batteries will drain each other when they are just sitting

I've heard this, too, but never from a known credible source. I've been running 3 batteries w/ no isolators for about 6 months now, and i don't think this battery-to-battery drain is very significant.

My car's been sitting for about 5 weeks now, because i have some wiring gremlins from a water leak, and it still fires right up with no problems if i need to move it.

I'd say forget about the isolator unless you're adding a deep cycle, and plan on using your system with ignition off a lot. I've personally never used my system unless i was actually driving, or had the engine atleast idling.

And i guess it'd be a problem if one had a bad ground or a dead cell, it would kill ALL of your batteries.
