Alternator brackets..

I have a 1994 GMC Sonoma 2.2L, 5SPD.

I posted this here as its more fabrication that electrical..

Since I'm on a budget, I'm thinking of getting one or two additional OEM factory GM alternators, and fabricating a bracket... However not the factory alt from this truck as it is 105 amp, but the 145 amp version from the fullsizes.

My truck does not have A/C, but I'm kinda thinking of putting an engine driven air compressor in place of the A/C compressor, if I bag the truck.

Where else could I put them? the factory alternator is on the passenger side under the intake, not sure if you can see it in the photos.

I may be able to make a bracket to bolt to the side of the block, and have the one or two extra alternators on it, and have it all together..

Fabrication isn't much of an issue for me, I love to weld, I can MIG/TIG/Stick, Oxyweld, Braze...

I can move the coolant resevoir too, if it would free up some room. Thats no big deal.

I know some of you guys have multiple alternators.. so hopefully you guys will chime in. Maybe you CRX guys could help, as this is also a four cylinder.

I may run two SAZ-3000Ds, if I get a job, or similar, just trying to plan something out if I do go that route.

Sorry its dirty, Those photos are when I got the truck, it was in a dirt parking lot for one year before I bought it, and there was a helipad next to it.

go on s10forum and look around the stereo and security section, a few guys have done it different ways, most luck would come from there. Honestly if you are gonna run alot of wattage i would, run a stocker for the truck/highs amp and get a h/o 16v for the sub amp only

Not sure if I'd do a 16V system, depends on whats involved. I might take a look at it when I get back home, I'm about 500kms away from my truck now.

I maaaay run two SAZ-3000s at 12V... don't want to give the SPL-12s any more for a daily...

We'll see how everything turns out..

This is my daily btw. Well, will be when I get my license in Aug.

I use a two alt setup 12/16v DCPower made my brackets for the conversion and sent with the alts.

I was thinking of running two AD2444s, the 145 amp versions, with the stock alt, and have the two AD244s charge the batteries connected to the two amps..

I haven't bought any of this yet, just trying to map it out.

looks like u have tons of room. just gotta find some place with a good cnc machine or a person that can weld really well.
I may be buying a welder tomorrow hopefully.

I can weld myself, and my uncle has a welding truck, Ford F350 w/ Miller Trailblazer 250 I think on it, and he's a ticketed welder and does high pressure pipe and stuff at the oil plants. He can weld very good.

EDIT: here's the only pic I got of my welds.. its a 3 pass lap joint done with a mig.

Haven't chopped it in half to see the penetration but I got good marks on the weld..

looks good as long as u set the temp right so u were able to melt the 2 together. a cnc machine would make u makin ur bracket alot easier than using a gas cutter and all the grinding. but if thats what u gotta do o well it would be worth it.

look at the components u use and dont use. like if u dont use the AC u can usually take that off and put one there. or look directly beside it for room and u can sometimes weld a bracket to the existing bracket and make a bolt on bracket to another bolt somewhere.

My truck never had A/C from the factory as its a lower model, but I may put a air ride compressor in place of where the air conditioning compressor would sit.

I bought a welder today at an auction, was going for a MIG/TIG/Stick outfit but it was missing parts and went for more money than the MIG machine I bought, a Hobart Ironman 250.

I'll see how the monetary situation works out.

If I get a job, I'll probably just get two SAZ-3000s and stick one on each sub.

I figure I might as well do this stuff while I can, I'm still at home, still in school, but I have plenty of time to gather some money and do what I want before I have a wife/home or apartment/school to pay for.
