My bad days usually aren't that bad, but today things just seamed to add up. Started my day by shoveling 900lb of ice covered slush that the plowman put in my drive way. Then I'm am late for work due to the shoveling and everyone driving like grandma's.
When I get to work there is no power so we can't do anything, and we were over booked in the first place (I'm a low budget mechanic). I spent all morning putting axel universals in an 88 power ram that isn't even road legal but somehow is inspected. Then the boss goes somewhere, I don't remember where, I spent the next hour hanging up on telemarketers and not getting anything done.
When the boss gets back he tells me that he backed into my car. I look out the door and see a trailer hitch sized hole in my bumper, btw this makes twice in six months someone in a truck has backed into my car. I know he is good for fixing it, but it still pissed me off. At noon the boss leaves for the weekend and has a customer (one of his friends) bring me a sandwich for lunch in exchange for a new fan belt. most disgusting sandwich ever! It was chicken seasoned with a packet from one of those noodle packs in a burrito shell came with a good brownie though.
One of the other guys that work with me showed up, it was good to have the help and he does good work, but he doesn't have much experience so he takes longer to get things done, so
I knew that we still weren't going to get everything done, The power came back on a 2:00 so most of the day was wasted. I made the decision to get the un-drivable cars in first so that in case anyone really needed their cars back before the weekend they would be able to. This is what caused the problem We had the 88 ram for exhaust and an oil pressure sending unit (a plow truck that many people depend on, top priority), a 91 caviler for a radiator (person is having hard times), and a 99 Taurus for no heat most likely a clogged heater core. The ram was already on the lift so the other guy was fixing that one, and I set to work on the cavi, because the Taurus was drivable as it was. The cavi was pretty rusted so I ended up having to replace a ****** cooler line free of charge, and that wasted more time than it should have. as I get it back together the cavi's oner showed up, a really sweat woman who didn't mind wating for me to let the car go through a heat cycle to insure that the thermostat was working and that their wasn't any air left in it.
After that was gone their was 30 min left before closing time at 5:00 and the latest I can stay is until 6:20 - 6:30 in order to make it home in time to give my dog his insulin, so I didn't want to take the chance of making the tuarus un drivable over the weekend so I decide that I would finish the one other job sitting in the shop, an exhaust needed to be bent for another performance shop in town.
I call the guy with the Taurus and let him know that we won't be able to get to his car until monday, and he says ok, but I could tell it pissed him off. The car fist came in a few months before for the same problem, we replaced the thermostat because it wasn't opening and also flushed the heater core, we tested it and the heat worked, it came back a month later for the same problem and we flushed it again for free and tested it several times through several heat cycles and it worked fine after the second flush.
At 5:30 I finish up the exhaust and call the shop, they say they'll come right over and pick it up, so I waited until 6:00 when they show up, I'm already an hour overtime unpayed, Then I start closing up the shop and cleaning a bit when the phone rings. I figured what the heck we were technically closed but I'll see who it is. It was the guy with the Taurus and he was really mad, I won't go into what he said but he was mad that we didn't get to his car, he blamed me and demanded that I work unpayed over the weekend to fix his car, I told him many times that I wasn't going t do that and that I was sorry we didn't fix his car. This went on for a half hour without him budging on his decision that I need to spend my weekend fixing his car, at about 6:30 is when I had enough, I was late and ****ing pissed off and I lost it, I said that I didn't give a **** about his car and he could take it somewhere else! That pretty much ended the conversation, and I went home.
I know I was ******* stupid to talk to any customer that way, but **** he was selfish about his car, I went home and gave my dog a shot and took a shower, but I still felt bad about talking to him that way so I ended up leaving him an apology in his car along with $120.00 out of my pay to cover the thermostat and the first flush that didn't work.
So if you read the whole thing, am I an ******* or a ****?
