Bought a new car, installing some new stuff and some old stuff into new car.

2009 Mazda 6 with I think it has a 100 amp alternator

I will be running AVH-P4400BH

2 sets of MB Quart 6.5 components

2 Dayton HO 10's in ported box

Alpine MRP-F600 4 x 100 for components

Alpine MRP-M1000 1 x 1000 for subs

I have 4 gauge power wire (which I read can handle up with 120 amp without voltage loss (100 amp fuse at battery).

If I wanted to install a second battery and put it in the trunk, I would just need to run the one 4 gauge wire from battery under hood to the battery in the trunk and just ground the second battery in the trunk? Will my alternator be enough for both batteries and do I need to purchase two like batteries?

thanks all

if you get a second battery do not get a factory wet cell, for many reasons, I recomend getting a nice agm battery, i actually am consider selling both my hc2000 and hc2400 if you are interested, agms have less strain on alternators, they also charge, and discharge faster, and almost always have a higher resting voltage, the list of good things goes, on.

both of those amps are extremly efficant and drawl little current to there power output (ratio wise). if you arnt going full tilt all of the time 4 guage should be fine make sure you redo your alternator cable, and batter grounds with at least 4 gauge would recommend 1/0 for this. and at the second batter make sure there is another fuse so there is one on each side of the fire wall between batterys.

Thanks for the advice.. I will make sure I replace alternator wires and look into a pair of agm batteries. In my old car I would get head light dim and that was with a single 12 IDQ and the same alpine mono amp, but 500 watt version.. so I will be drawing a little more more with the 1000 watt version I will be running now. So I wanted to look into the two battery thing and see what all was required and if my stock alternator could keep up. I don't go around with my system really loud all that often, just on occasion.. usually its just howard stern on in the car lol
