Alternator at Idol?

If that alternator is a Delco-Remy unit then have it rewound rather than replacing it with an HO unit - much cheaper option.
If it is the same as the alternator on a '95 Prizm (completely different body but essentially the same motor) it is a 75a alternator //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

(Prizm electricals is something I have a bit of experience with //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif)
Not sure thats right. Being the 1995 Prizm was a Chevy, and the 1991 was a Toyota Corrola. The Engine is a Toyota, and all the parts for it are Toyota parts.

(A) The 1995 was sold as a Geo, same as the 1991. They were not badged as Chevrolets until 1998 when the bodystyle was changed again.

(B) ALL of the cars carrying the Prizm model name were mechanically Toyota Corollas, assembled in the NUMMI plant in Fremont, California as were the Chevrolet Novas that preceded it.

My 1995 GEO Prizm has a 4A-FE 1.6L DOHC 16v Toyota engine. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Well I found out my stock Alt only puts out 70Amps at 5000 RPM. I do not think my car ever hits 5000 RPM being its an automatic! lol I guess its time for an updated one. I have contatced Exessive Amperage, Ohio Generator, and Iraggi. Anyone have anything to say about any of these?

i heard good things from all of them, i think iraggi is more appraised around here. the only tip i can give is dont buy an ho from ebay //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif. 99.9% its rewound.

Would you all recomend a Red Top Optima Battery in the engine compartment? The battery I have in now still seems to be ok, but just wondering if I should get a Red Top when I get the new HO Alt and do the BIG3?

Oh man, i'm guessing 80A> peak.
Even a HO would put out more at idle.

So it could just be a dying alternator to begin with.

negative, buddy of mine who's been building an instaling alternators for over 26 years swears up and down to me that HO alt's have a lower amperage rating at idle rpms.....in fact the higher you go with a HO alt, the lower u get at low rpms.....but thats just what a professional that has been been in the business for a long time (also happens to do majority of alt work for the orlando magic player's cars)

so all those HO alts really do thier power at higher rpms, but dont do what they're listed at idle.....

if someone can show u concrete proof that im wrong ill stfu....but im pretty sure im right....

Thats why they put the smaller pulleys on. This allows the alt to spin faster creating the higher idel outputs. At least thats what I was told by a Alt builder.
