Alternator and Battery Question

You'd have to talk to Meade but I don't think he is running production units. Plus he is powering gigantic amounts of power. Everytime I've talked to an alt company they recommend me a 250 amp unit for daily driver because of output at idle. Sure, get the 350 and raise your idle speed. Not worth it imo.
i could understand if there werent other benefits to the 350, but again opinions vary. you=250 me=350 end of story //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Well what do you say we ask an alt manufacturer?

if i heard it with my own ears from an alt company, my thought would be changed completely, until then, i see people running 350s for daily all over the forums. its cool man. you think one way, i think another.what fun would this world be if we all agreed on everything

I think Meade did a mix of alts, 3 350s and 1 250.
Could someone poke at my question? xD It is relevant to the thread.
3 350s 1 250 but meh, what do i know?

as far as your question, if im understanding it right, batteries take all the juice first, then it pulls from the alt.

PM from Mechman. I wanted 2 300 amp alts.

"I don't have a dual bracket for that vehicle. Also, I would advise against a 300 amp alternator unless you plan on revving the engine up to get decent current. That will be the case with any 300 amp alternator that you buy. We have several options:

200 amp Propower series (125 at idle) = $XXX

250 amp Rhino series w/ built in adjustable voltage = $XXX

300 amp Comp series w/ built in adjustable voltage = $XXX

All are built with heavy duty internals, the Rhino and Comp come with the Super duty Rectifier and oversized charge lugs. The Rhino is usually the best choice for 99% of customers. Let me know if you need any other specs!"

Hmmm... The natural floating voltage of the batt is 12.8(approx), but it is charged by the alt, before hand to a higher voltage. I understand that the voltage charging the battery by the alt (14.4V) will be sustained for a short term until drawn, but it is kept up by the alt. When you have a load presented, the real cell discharge measured on the datasheet starts at 12.8V, I think... This leads me to think that the supply must be distributed between the alt and the batts.

Wasn't trying to make you look bad at all. We were debating a point and the point is resolved. You had very valid points..

Ok before I start getting suggestions for amps and 2 12" subs for the 4kw range. Would I need multiple 1/0 gauge runs to the back? What exactly would I run the supplemental runs to? The same battery? or one to each battery?
