Alternator Amperage

I have an approximately 1200 watt system in my 2000 olds intrigue. I will be listening to music and the car will flat out die. I know this is because of the cruddy old alternator in it. So, I was wondering the minimum amount of amperage from an alternator I would need, because I don't have 500 bucks to pull out of my pocket for a high output one. Your thoughts and recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks for tellin me, I don't know where i'm supposed to talk about what, sorry. Anyway, I have 2 12' Type R's at 4 ohms, and a old 200 watt eclipse speaker amp. Also, I have not done the big 3, but I was thinking about it. Although, I know my alternator is fried. The kid before me had some subs(I don't know what) and just abused the car completely.

200 watts are doin work to 12" type rrrr's like that on a stock alt and wire??? i gotz 4 of dem sumbishes!! i gotta get to work..big 3 first man, if that don't do it add a battery to just the amp..i was pushing an ap3k w/stock evrything..IMO
