Alt problems......FML!!!!!!!

I would call DC and see about freshening it up and going bigger. And quit being a cheapskate when it comes to your electrical //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif
If you own a DMM you can test voltage yourself as I wouldn't trust anyone, even for something that simple.

Lol i did test it with a dmm. Advance used that machine thing.

I'm saying that you using a DMM was probably just as good as them doing it as I don't think they can properly load test it. So both of you were just reading voltage output with little to no load on the alt...

na they tested with no load, then turned on the heat, lights, rear def. As well as i did the same thing at home. I just like to have a 2nd opinion. there shouldnt be a need for a load tho. the batterys right now are pretty low and should make the alt charge at high volts(if its able to which its not lol)... before when i started my truck(when the alt was working good) it would charge from 14.6 - 14.8 while cold(first crank of the morning) and when it got hot or batteries charged up it ran at 14.3-14.4. Now the batts are low and even when the alts cold and batts are low it still will charge only at 13.2v(cold), & 13v(hot).

I'm talking an amp pulling 200-300amps vs just turning on accessories.

Is the belt slipping? Have you load tested the batt(s)? Dead cells will bring down charging voltage....

When playing the system it drops bad like to 12v or lower. No i just put a new belt on last saturday. Before i never did that. Before it would only drop to 13.8v at idle with system playing. The batteries where tested 1 by 1 and all tested good jist needed to be charged where the alt has not been charging worth a crap. Like when i start the truck it starts charging at 12.5v and works its way up to 13v after like 1 min and stops and doesnt go any higher. Idk what that means tho.

last thing you could try is start the car, disconnect batts from alt and check alt output. It's not good on an alt to do that with no load, so if you try that just be quick about it.

I'd send it off and have it updgraded/rebuilt to a bigger size...

Hmmm.... Today was random... I went out and started my blazer and it actually got up 14.2 voltage wise. It didnt stay there that long tho. But it did... So that has me confused now... If its not the alt, idk what it could be.

Sounds like the regulator and or diodes are going out easy fix if you know what your doing and if you got it apart might as well put bearings in it any alt shop should do this for well under a 100$.

my alt completely took a mega crap. No charging at all.

I got my 90A stock alt for my intrepid fixed for $45.

I don't know how it takes $100+ to fix certain alts. Must be proprietary parts or something.....
