Alpine vs Focal

I was planning on getting 2 Alpine Type R 12's but I have been hearing that Focal makes awesome subs. The Focal I've been looking at is the Utopia line 33WX which is about $550 for 1 13" where I can probably get the 2 Alpines for less than $300. Would it be worth it to spend all that extra money for the Focal or would the Alpines sound just as good(both SQ and SPL wise)?

I was planning to also get a PPI amp.....which are insanely expensive for the watts you get out of them. If I get the Alpines however I would probably get a different amp since I would need much more wattage...

I myself own a 15 inch type R and even though 15's are usually sloppy i was impressed with how nice it sounded, if you want pound and SQ go with type R's but if you want SQ go with Focal.

focals can hit as well!! i know of one 10" utopia with soundstream power in a vw that hits 144 db!! the guy owns the install shop and (of course) get what he wants. but in reality, the type r's, i can't see $900 for a single 10.
