Alpine Type X

Not sure that's the type of help I'm looking for. Sure, if you compare them to SPL subs, they're not going to perform nearly as well. They're designed more for SQ than anything. I'm not looking to get any record numbers with it. They handle what they're supposed to handle. As I said before, I believe the previous owner pretty much destroyed the sub and then traded with me. Long story short, I'm not getting anything used again as far as speakers go.

Yeah, so if they handled "gobs" of power, were efficient (I'm assuming that's what you mean by "eff") and sounded amazing, why would you say the soft parts are garbage? If I'm only going to be giving the sub 648 watts before voltage drops and impedance rise, I should have no issues with it. That kind of power should not make one stink and start heating up like crazy.

Yeah, smelly problems. Like I said, the sub smelled a little when I got it so I don't think I was the cause of the problem(s). I ordered a brand new SWX-1043 and I'm going to sell this one locally and try and get my money back, or at least some of my money back for the brand new one.

all subs will go out of whack when you move the coil while measuring impedence lol. Also as everyone else mentioned, speakers do get hot, it's common and not a problem at all. If you have silicion on your terminals that might be what your smelling. Anyway if your coils all read ok and there is no mechanical noise I'm inclined to believe it's fine. Once you get your new one you can test it against your old one I suppose.

I was going to test it out. I know that all speakers do go out of whack when you move them too. This one you can literally breathe on and it'll go nuts. I know they heat up, but like I said, this one was heating up too much. Lastly, there is some mechanical noise while it's playing at certain frequencies. I'll test it against the new one to know for sure.
