Alpine Type X help (sounds ridicoulously weak)

Easy there, chief...
So I was garnishing the forums with a bit of sarcasm. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif But c'mon now... a properly enclosed and powered X shines on the very low end. That's no secret.

I was talking in terms of SQL, since there are many subs out there that will blow the X out of the water in terms of SPL. But as with any sub, the real performance comes from the install, not neccessarily from the equipment itself.

What is wrong with you people? Going too big on a sealed enclosure will NOT lessen your low end. It will also not make the sub seem like it's extremely quiet.

How is the sub positioned in the vehicle?

How EXACTLY is the sub wired (provide pictures if you can)?

How are your gains set?

How are your crossovers set?

Answer these questions before listening to some of these jackasses who think the enclosure being large will cause a problem with output.

is the sub moving a lot but you aren't hearing a lot of bass? If this is the case, make sure your pos and neg aren't switched at your amp..
if your sub isn't moving much, make sure it is indeed wired at 2 ohms

either way go way smaller on the box or try ported
Type Xs dont like ported boxes at all.

1kW @ 2 Ohms when fed on 14.5vdc not 14.4vdc if we're going to bother with corrections - get it right, fella.
i don't know what you looked at but the pdf i looked at said 14.4... and so what anyway? you don't have to get mad just cause you were wrong

Mad because I was wrong?

What do you reckon the odds are that the OP is feeding his gear with much closer to 12 1/2 volts than he is to 14 1/2 volts?

My money's on

As far as what I was looking at?

Here ~ I'll show you:

well I just want to throw it out there that if you decide you wanna part with it on acount that its just doesnt hit hard enough for you, I will gladly take it off your hands as long as you keep you word that its going to go dirt cheap (lol).

here is the pdf that is on JL's website right now... http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/eSeries%20Amps/e1800D.pdf... it says 14.4 volts...

and it really depends, if his car is running 14+ volts, and he has good connections, then it is a good bet that the amp could put out 1000...

and yes he will probly be sending less than 800 to them most of the time.. but when listening to music this goes without saying...

i really doubt his voltage with drop to 12.5 very often...

Beat me to it.

I'll take your setup for dirt cheap if this guy decides against it. Paypal ready.

oh, and i almost forgot... that file you posted was for an a1800, not an e1800, get it right fella...
True... But it has the EXCACT same specs as my e1800, so I just decided to put the link to it because it basically IS the exact same thing, and JL Audio didn't have the e1800 on their website anymore. Sorry if I caused any confusions.

43de, when you see the sub is it moving well and hitting good in the trunk? You drive a lexus which means EXTREMELY sealed off trunk. My friend has a 2000 Lexus w/ a pair of 12" CVRs off 1000rms and it sounds like nothing is even back there. All the bass just flies around in the trunk but the cabin is so sealed off from the trunk to prevent road noise that it isn't allowing any bass into the cabin. I have an older lexus (93) which is sealed off, but not nearly as bad. Your going to need a new box and are going to need to find a way to get bass in the cabin. Try removing your rear speakers and see if that helps any. Oh, and your box, way overboard on size //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif
