Alpine Type R issue...

i have a friend who has a 12" type R in a 3 cu ft box tuned at 40 hz... he's not powering it all the way because he's still breaking it in. but he wanted me to ask on here why its so horrible at picking up the lows!?!?!

and tell him to stop being a puss and slam that thing because breaking a sub in is not necessary.

if he wants it to really nail those lows, I would tune around 30-34hz, 2-2.5 cubes-ish... 40 hz is closer to comp tuning

and do u know how much power hes sending it right now?

750 is a good number for those type-r's. I had about 800 on my old olddddd type-r for around 8 months and it never even broke a sweat.

Tell him if he wants to hit the lows, he needs to tune lower, and he should use all of that amps potential (so long as he isn't clipping)!!! Like I said, breaking a sub in isn't necessary.

Either way he will enjoy the setup, because that sub will POUND with 500 OR 750 watts in the right box.

This is the most important advice here. You might understand how to set amp gains but make sure your friend does.

I had it tuned to 30hz in a 1.7 cu ft box

it still lacked the lows

perhaps the box was too small?
