Alpine Type R Blown Voice Coil

Was subwoofer amp gain set by DMM method? Try to use the DMM next time so you don't accidentally overdrive your amplifier or subwoofer. Otherwise, it's kind of hard to discuss whether you had "bad power" or a bad subwoofer. In any case, most "under $200" subwoofers are considered throwaway subs.. I believe you can't fix them. One thing you can try to buy an identical Alpine Type-R model sub, set gain with DMM and see how it goes. Onlinecarstereo.com is offering SWR-1223 for $135 right now.

i saw that one! i have a guy whos gonna try and sell me one a bit cheaper. so if that does fall thru im getting it off there. I'm gonna get a multimeter tomorrow, so i can set the gains correctly.

I know that this is an old thread but I was wondering if the type r was a 10" and if you possibly still had the blown one . I have a type r 10" that was dropped and the basket is broken but my voice coil and cone are still good. I would be willing to purchase the blown one if you still have it. Please let me know.
