Alpine Type R Blown Voice Coil

To answer your question I would not try to have an amp run a blown or even a questionable speaker or sub.

You could fry the amp.

Either unplug the amp's remote on cable (which is blue) or disconnect one of the woofer cables until you either recone or replace the sub.

If you decide to go with new sub(s) Starr Mountain Sound is out in Etowah I know its a drive, but he builds great custom boxes and is very reasonable. He knows his bass and maybe able to give you some suggestions on what subs to buy. He could taylor the box to the output your looking for.

I drove over from Knoxville to pick mine up, Brian is the owner he is an interesting guy. lol

Also there are a lot of used subs in the classifieds here that would be affordable.

i'm looking all over this site right now. haha this place is crazy amazing! i'll keep him in mind and will call him if i can't find an option i like soon. you live in kville???
Live in oliver springs, work in knox.

This is a good forum, most of the people are friendly and helpful.

recone both subs. if you have pushed the good remaining sub real hard (doesn't mean that it got loud), then over-excursion could have damaged, or at least stressed it. in stock form, the type r 10's get decently loud and sound clean no problem. the motor (magnet assembly) on them is just fine, even better than some dc subs i've seen, and the basket is a basket. no problem there.

buy the sub online but have someone local set up ur amp and or look at ur enclosure so you dont blow another 1.

i can recone the sub but it wont be stock to match or play with the other type r...

dont bother fixing just a waste of time to be honest..sell the working one and buy a higher end sub
you

well run just 1 til it blows or sell it and get 1 12....theres nice subs for under 200 bucks that will be louder than 2 of those type r.s in the right box...what amp are u running?

Yea thats a pretty decent amp man ..ditch the good type r ,,and buy a american bass xfl .. And have someone build you a custom box and it will be louder and sound better than both those type r.s...they r 182 bucks new..amazing for the money
a

oh no please dont buy a re...they were good back in the day but the new stuff has gone to ****...american bass xfl are on ebay for 182 free shipping then get someone to build you a nice box
retard

I think that sub is best bang for the buck on the market 1000 rms and can handle well over that,,in the right box they kill..what car u got?
lulz

So the basic consensus here is to get another type r? and seriously for what you pay for them, they really do sound d*** good! i love em.
They are a good sub for the money. I'd just find one used though on craigslist or from a member here. If you buy one new, it may not be the same generation as the one you have running.

Also, definitely make sure that amp is not playing, you could damage a whole lot more with that damaged sub in there.

Finally, make sure your gains are set PROPERLY and not just turned up. I'm sure you could find someone local-ish to you on here that could help look everything over and make sure it's all squared up.
