Alpine or Pioneer

Pioneer offers a lot more than colors and graphics. Way to generalize with no credible information.

Such as what??
the 3 way crossover was a big difference and the reason i purchased the alpine. not going to go into detail. my alpine is better though. you go figure out the differences cause im not going to type out all the stats.

Pioneer has decks with 3 way crossovers too. But to each his own. We all have our preferences. I was just curious what you liked about your Alpine that Pioneer did NOT offer. Didn't ask you to go into detail.

The Pioneer 800prs has the same features as the 3way Alpine (9887?) but also has a better EQ, auto T/A and EQ (alpine imprint you have to pay extra), and a copper chassis. If you like to play music off your ipod, the Alpine is better in that category. Like I said, IMO Pioneer has better HU's with comparable Alpine units at the same price points. If you're not an idiot (like me) you can avoid blowing the PICO fuse rather easily, I was just lazy and blew mine.

I recently have been looking for a new deck.

I also dont like the fact that some of the Alpines features on some of their decks have to be unlocked or you have to buy an additional component to use it.

I do like the Pioneer DEH-9800BT for the fact it comes with everything. Nice unit.

OTOH I have a Alpine CDA-7863 that is at least 14 years old that is still going strong. Nice clear sound.

I prefer Alpine but that Pioneer has me wondering...

I too am seriously looking for a new head unit to replace my starting-to-fail Sony CDX-S2000 unit.

The unit I am seriously considering right now are either the Alpine iDA-X303 or the Pioneer DEH-P6000UB, though I will accept any decent unit with full iPod compatibility (epecially 3G or 4G iPod nanos) in the US$225 to US$275 range. I want one with a really decent display AND the ability to even go through the Podcast playlist on the 3G or 4G nano on the head unit itself.

When choosing a deck, to me it is of utmost importance! It is your command central, everthing else feeds off of your deck. My love of great sounding car audio began with a pioneer, many moons ago. I love it. As time went on, I got to understand and hear the wonderful world of Alpine decks. They are just flat out sexy! I have lots of good things to say about both. Features and personal preferences come into play here. Over the last 5 years or so, I went exclusivly to the Kenwood Excelon decks and have never regreted it. Great sounding car audio is subjected to listener prefrence. For me I did alot of homework and alot of listening, and ask questions. A guy i used to work with bought the 880 prs when it first came out. I was envious of course. Great deck!! A guy I deal with down in Carbondale, bought a 9887 right out of the shoot and I took a listen. Just beautiful. Of course he had the great gear behind it. Both Pioneer and Alpine have some great qualities about them. The debate will go on forever.......Just get what works best for your audio application, and you will be just fine. As for me I am very happy with my X-990.

in a recent poll done on a dif forum ( mostly competition related) pioneer premier kenwood excellon and alpine were the top 3 choices in that order for sq (sound quality) and for spl alpine wasnt in the top 3.

I love both and have several of each new and old.

By the way, I'm now down to two choices: Pioneer DEH-P5100UB or the Sony CDX-GT730UI. Both units are 4G iPod nano compatible provided I use the iPod data cable provided by Apple. (It should be noted I am NOT interested in preamp outs since it will be put into my 1998 Honda Civic, and I am NOT interested in high-volume sound with lots of bass from subwoofers.)

I am actually leaning towards getting the CDX-GT730UI, mostly because it has five sets of presets for radio stations (2 AM, 3 FM). That way, I can keep one preset for my favorite Sacramento, CA area stations and change the other presets for stations in other areas as I travel around.

I just bought the 5100ub and now my brother wants to buy it so Im considering taking his cash and throwing in a little more and upgrading to the next level pioneer HU. The problem is that it looks to me like I have to go to a $550 HU to really get any major difference. Anybody agree with this? It looks like in order to get 5V preouts instead of 4V and 24bit D/A converter I will spend $550 on the DEH-800PRS. I dont mean to hijack your thread....I thougt it was relevant.

Skip the DEH-P5100UB, and get the DEH-P510UB. Better warranty, comes with the iPod cable, and it works beautifully with all iPods/iPhones. Also has ASR technology, and Link Play. It has 3 sets of FM presets. I'm personally waiting on the DEH-P710BT...
