Pioneer DEH-510ub $209 and $229...........is the Eclipse that much better? Im on the fence...

Skip the DEH-P5100UB, and get the DEH-P510UB. Better warranty, comes with the iPod cable, and it works beautifully with all iPods/iPhones. Also has ASR technology, and Link Play. It has 3 sets of FM presets. I'm personally waiting on the DEH-P710BT...

I actually tried the DEH-P510UB today and while it sounded really good, I still had to reject it. The reason is simple: when I plugged in my new 4G iPod nano (blue case 16 GB) using the Apple-supplied iPod data cable, the DEH-P510UB changed the default configuration of my iPod if you let the head unit control the iPod.

Meanwhile, the Sony CDX-GT730UI didn't change the default configuration when I plugged it in. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Besides, the CDX-GT730UI has something I like: five different radio presets (two AM, three FM), something that almost every other head unit miss.

i've been using almost exclusively alpines since i've started toying with car audio. both alpine and pioneer have some great head units. i've been considering dumping off my alpine for an 800prs or an 880. they both look like very decent units especially for the price. spec wise, they seem to be the best out there in their range. i'm extremely happy with my alpine 9855 that i'm using not, but the pioneers offer a 24 bit dac and copper chassis; my alpine offers neither of which. the only alpine in years to offer a 24 bit dac is the 9887 and price wise, you're prolly better off with one of the beforementioned pioneers. i think i'm stuck in the same situation as you...

I have always been a fan of Pioneer, but that is not to say I would never own an Alpine HU. If I found an Alpine HU that had the features I wanted, and the looks of Pioneer HU's, I would use it. I just like the look of the Pioneer versus Alpine.

Both are very capable manufacturers, and both make excellent HU's.

Alpine I had 3 pioneer decks all failed. Alpine is the only one I will buy now.
