Alpine CDA-7897

Anyone have this deck? any inputs about it? How well does it perform? Whats your opinion on the phantom face? And is the internal amp good to power aftermarket speakers?

A guy on another forum tested 2 7897s. The sub pre out was far from impressive. There is another guy who had one, the local shop tested his for him, and it clipped hard on volume 23(out of 35).

Another guy I know had one(or the 7998...one of those ridiculously priced decks) and MUCH prefers his 9813 that he has to it. In his opinion, the phantom face decks were just too much cash for what you get.

Now, all of that being said, if you check one out and like it, that is pretty much all that matters.

Awesome deck, absolutely love mine. I've never had a problem with it either. FantomFace is very cool, don't have to worry about pulling the face off when you get out of the car. Internal amp is pretty much the same as any other aftermarket one (~25W x4) and you'd be better off running an external amp as you would with anything else.

My exact thoughts on the unit.

I have the 7998, however, so I'm running all external amplifiers.

Much prefer the 7998 over my 9813, but they're both very nice.

Just wondering if the CDA-9815 was better then the 7897? And what the differences was?
